ERWIN MCMANUS: THE PROCESS OF BECOMING

As many of you know Apprising Ministries is among those who deal with defending the Gospel of Jesus Christ from today’s new cult of liberalism known as the Emergent Church. In the You Tube clip to follow you can see for yourself just how Southern Baptist cultural architect and distinguished futurist Erwin Raphael McManus presents their non-gospel all the while talking about “the process of becoming.”

Huh, what? But wait; isn’t this the man who writes in his book The Barbarian Way:

Rhinos moving together at full speed are known as a crash… That’s what happens when we become barbarians and shake free of domestication and civility. The church becomes a crash. We become an unstoppable force… Who cares that we can only see thirty feet ahead? Whatever’s at thirty-one feet needs to care that we are coming and better get out of the way. (138)

Notice here that the swash-buckling Barbarian is not so bold enough as to even mention the Cross of Jesus Christ when asked, “So how do you change your value system?” (02:17) Instead of a “crash” we get the ol’ soft-shoe sidestep with, “Well, I think everyone here has to decide that on their own.” O sure, Erwin does say rather apologetically that he feels it’s best for him to follow Jesus. And then talks about this as if a person can simply just decide to do so without being born again.

But this is offered as an appeal to those of you who have become followers of Emergent people-pleasing men like Erwin McManus to wake up from this kind of foolish hypocrisy and psycho-babble as he spews on about so-called “value systems.” This is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because completely consistent with his writings, when presented with the opportunity to get to the very root of mankind’s actual problem–sin–-Erwin simply runs away.
