An unprecedented, eye-brow raising Christian conference will be held at the famed Crystal Cathedral next week, bringing together an eclectic group of speakers ranging from former President George H.W. Bush and Rupert Murdoch to the Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller and Kay Warren.

More than 30 leading figures in and outside of Christianity will converge on one stage Jan. 17 to 19 for the Rethink Conference, co-hosted by Crystal Cathedral’s Schuller and emerging church leader Erwin McManus of Mosaic Church in Los Angeles. (Online source)

Let’s say that we get the very top car salespersons in the known universe together to brainstorm the very latest ideas and techniques on how to sell cars to dead people. Each of them shares their expert ideas and then they go ahead and distill all of this knowledge down to create the very exact science of selling cars to dead people.

Bolstered by each other’s worldly wisdom, they then head on out to the local cemeteries. There they begin to ply their trade to the dead people within their graves by making the absolute best sales pitches in order to try and sell them a car. After a while, noticing there’s no reaction, in frustration they begin to make the deals better and better and better, until finally they decide to just give cars away. But alas, there’s still not one taker.

Why? It’s because dead people simply have no way of doing anything on their own anymore; for you see, this is what makes them dead. And so it is with our preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; either we preach Him crucified and in the power of God the Holy Spirit, or we are simply filling cemeteries full of people who have no ability to choose life on their own. Now can you see the sorry state of the American Christian Church and the man-centered non-gospel of men like Rick Warren and Rob Bell, who were undoubtedly influenced by Schuller?
