Christ loves Light; Satan loves darkness. Christ works life; Satan works death. Christ is love; Satan is hate. Christ is goodness; Satan is evil. Christ is Truth; Satan is falsehood. Moreover, in the next place, Satan is well aware that the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ in this world is not for his good. He has no share in Christ’s incarnation, not in His atoning sacrifice.

This is one of the wonderful results of the election of grace. Those persons who stumble at the election of some men rather than others ought equally to stumble at the fact that Christ did not redeem fallen, but only fallen men; for why God chose to save men, and not to save angels, who among us can tell? The only answer I know to that question is this: “Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in Thy sight” (Matthew 11:26, KJV).
