SBC PASTOR CHARLES STANLEY ON “MEDITATION”

It’s pretty sad when as a “Protestant” evangelical one’s teaching on meditation can be picked up and used byFranciscan Roman Catholics as has “Sister Patricia Proctor” below, who tells us “I have been a nun – Roman Catholic type – since 1981.”

Quote for the Day:

The essence of meditation is a period of time set aside to
contemplate the Lord, listen to Him, and allow Him to permeate
our spirits.

Charles Stanley
Quote from the book, “101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer” (Online source)

And, in the Lord, I’m warning you that to ”listen” to God with your “feelings/experience” apart from Holy Scripture, as Stanley and more and more evangelicals are now suggesting, is a recipe for spiritual deception and disaster.

See if you can figure this out: Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism, with its “meditation” aka Contemplative/Centering Prayer originated with alleged “Christian” hermits living an antibiblical lifestyle secluding themselves away in the Eastern desert.

John Cassian, the father of semi-pelagianism, then brings this wrong approach to the Christian life (e.g. see-John 20:21) and proper spirituality (no one’s saying to be spiritual is wrong) to the West. This CSM would then fester and flower in the monastic traditions of apostate Roman Catholicism, which would so anger God that He would raise up His Reformers in what became known as the Protestant (as in “protesting”) Reformation.

This exact same spurious spirituality, alluded to by Stanley in his quote on “prayer,” that once killed the mainline denominations has now slithered deeply into the mainstream of allegedly Protestant evangelicalism through the work of Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster and his dupe Dallas Willard.

So do you seriously think God is pleased that those who supposedly are aligned with said Reformers are now embracing this kind of prayer [read: transcendental meditation-lite], of Counter Reformation figures such as the notorious Ignatius of Loyola, done during an altered state of consciousness? If so; to quote Dr. Walter Martin, “You seriously need to have your spiritual head examined.”
