DR. AL MOHLER ON A MATTER OF PRIDE?

DOWN WITH SOLA SCRIPTURA!

RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE ITSELF NO LONGER DUE RESPECT...NEVER AGAIN

For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. (Jude 4, ESV)

Hello, This Is Your Spiritual Wake-Up Call—They Are Now Emerging

The Lord knows I have had a couple of differences with Dr. Mohler in the past as relating to the Southern Baptist Convention, but even so, I’ve always had much respect for this brother in Christ. One News Now is carrying a guest column from Dr. Mohler where he shares a bang-on perspective concerning the unrepentant practice of sexual immorality with a member of the same sex, which is precisely what homosexuality is.

And because as Christians we know that, but for the grace of God we are what we are, we heartily agree that what Dr. Mohler says in this piece also applies to any sin…period:

The issue of homosexuality presents all morally serious persons with an unavoidable question: What is the moral status of homosexual acts and relationships? One way or the other, some judgment on this matter will be made. Are homosexual acts inherently wrong, dishonorable, and sinful? Or, is homosexuality morally neutral, with specific sexual acts and relationships determined to be either right or wrong by context and intention? Are homosexual acts morally good and honorable? These assertions of moral judgment represent something of the range of possibilities and cover most of the main alternatives…

President Obama recently signed a proclamation designating the month of June as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, 2009.”… Morally serious persons must take the president’s proclamation as a morally serious act. As such, it demands a response. Evangelical Christians dare not respond with a claim of moral superiority as if we are not ourselves sinners. But we must be clear that we cannot find pride in sin, whether these are our own sins or those of others. The Gospel of Christ simply does not allow us to see sin — any sin — as a matter of pride. Apprising Ministries has long been covering the all-inclusive postliberal cult of the Emerging Church aka Emergent Church, now morphing into Emergence Christianity, slithering into the mainstream of apostatizing evangelicalism. I can tell you that 1) they have an agenda to condition people into accepting that the deviant lifestyle of practicing homosexuality is also proper for the Christian; 2) most people don’t believe/don’t care that this is happening, and 3) more young evangelicals than you realize have the same view concerning homosexuality as e.g. liberal politicians.

If you’re brave, poll your church youth group. But as I showed in Because I Love Jay Bakker And GLBTQ People, the hue and whine is that we ought to re-examine Scriptures involving homosexuality. However, you must understand that the Body of Christ has already done this many, many times before. And oddly enough, I’ve also personally done what Emerging Church pastor Dan Kimball shares from his book They Like Jesus But Not The Church:

I have wrestled with the Scriptures and difficult viewpoints. I studied this issue not being afraid to reexamine all I had ever been taught before and to approach it with an open mind and heart. However, after much prayer and study of the sexual ethics and themes presented overall in Scripture, I have found that I just can’t dismiss that in the Bible homosexual practice is considered a sin. Men and women, even the unbelieving liberal theologian John Shelby Spong said the exact same thing years ago on The John Ankerberg Show, long before these Emergence dreamers ever came on the Christian scene confusing reimagining [read: re-interpreting]…well, everything:

The issue in my mind is not [Scripture condemning homosexuality]. The issue is whether or not the people who lived at the time of the Bible and who wrote about homosexuality understood the scientific meaning of homosexuality. (Spong/Martin Debate on Sexual Ethics transcript, 9, 10)

All that’s left then is to attack the Bible itself. No, don’t be fooled; Al Mohler’s friend Dr. John MacArthur has already told you who’s really at the slimy bottom of this Emerging mess. Hint — Indeed, has God said (Genesis 3:1, NASB):

The bottom line, I think, in the movement is that it is a denial of the clarity of Scripture.  It is a denial that we can know what the Bible really says… It is at the foundation an unwillingness to accept the clear teaching of Scripture… These people, like the liberals, deny the clear teaching of Scripture…

One of the big issues is homosexuality in the Emerging Church. They don’t want to take a position on homosexuality. The Bible is not vague or obscure or oblique about homosexuality.  It couldn’t be more clear.  A homosexual will not inherit the Kingdom of God…that’s pretty clear.  Homosexuality in Romans chapter 1 is a perversion that is manifestly when it happens in a culture, begins to dominate a culture, an evidence of divine wrath and divine judgment.  So the Bible is clear. They don’t want that clarity. (Online source

A word to the wise; this issue of the unrepentant practice of sexual immorality with a member of the same sex (i.e. homosexuality) is not going to go away, so you’d best get ready to decide where you’re going to stand.
