JAY BAKKER AND CHRIS ROSEBROUGH

Apprising Ministries noted yesterday that “gay affirming” pastor Jay Bakker will be keynote speaker for the newly formed inclusive “New Bridges Faith Community” (NBFC) as seen in Jay Bakker In Memphis On Same-Sex Marriage. AM also pointed out a while back in Jay Bakker To Speak For ELCA Gathering that Bakker is going to be bringing his warped message of tolerance ala “queer inclusive” ELCA “pastor” Nadia Bolz-Weber to the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering—Jesus Justice Jazz, July 22-26 in New Orleans.

However, this affirmation of the deviant lifestyle of those practicing homosexuality, which is having sexual relations with another of the same sex outside of marriage, is actually the source of much division within the visible church. And as I mentioned in Homopressive As Jay Bakker, this position is not tolerant at all.

But rather than sharing the Gospel message of forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ, so called affirmers like Bakker and NBFC are instead guilty of homopression. As I’ve said before they are simply leaving these GLBTQ people—for whom Jesus died—in bondage to, and under the oppression of, their sin when they desperately need Christ’s power to set them free.

Here Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough of Pirate Christian Radio brings out a key point when he says to Bakker, who is now rising to prominence around the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC):

@jaybakker If you’re not proclaiming repentance & the forgiveness of sins to LGBTs then you don’t love them. Your sending them to hell. about 6 hours ago from TweetDeck in reply to jaybakker (Online source)

I previously pointed out in Jay Bakker Misses The Point that Bakker’s supporters have been “comforting” him by telling him to ignore “the haters” like myself and Rosebrough. But the truth is, instead of actually addressing the criticisms we’ve separately leveled at Bakker’s antibiblical gay affirming position, sadly he’s chosen to simply play the martyr.

And for this reason Chris Rosebrough has sent the following to Bakker via Twitter today concerning his Pirate Radio program discussed further in Jay Bakker And Westboro Baptist Church Suffer Same Spiritual Disease:

@jaybakker You gonna call or what? How about coming on my radio program 2 debate LGBT? Westboro had no problem coming on my program. You?about 5 hours ago from TweetDeck

@jaybakker better yet let’s debate the LGBT topic in person. I could come to NY. We could hold the debate at one of the churches in NYC.about 5 hours ago from TweetDeck

Which prompted the following response from Connie Waters, who happens to be the one who is bringing Bakker in to tell them what they want to hear speak for NBFC:

@piratechristian The way you talk to and about people! It seems you feel you have the RIGHT to be rude because YOU are on God’s right side!about 5 hours ago from web in reply to piratechristian

In Waters’ whine below, after Rosebrough attempted to reason with her, AM readers will also note a few familiar names who are behind a gathering same-sex storm moving directly toward the heart of mainstream evangelicalism. Don’t say you haven’t been warned:

@piratechristian Jay, Adele, Phylis, Tony, Tim and many others whom I respect. I serve God everyday and believe they speak to many FOR God!!about 4 hours ago from web in reply to piratechristian

Well, if Bakker does speak for God, then let’s hope he’ll stop all the game playing and false claims that I am attacking him personally and will actually take Rosebrough up on his offer. The church can only benefit from such a frank and open discussion on the growing affirmation within the mainstream evangelical community, typified by EC pastor Jay Bakker, that homosexuality is a viable lifestyle for the regenerated Christian.
