JOHN SHELBY SPONG ADMITS HOMOSEXUALITY IS CONDEMNED IN SCRIPTURE

Apprising Ministries has lately been covering the growing affirmation within the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—currently morphing into Emergence Christianity—(EC) that someone unrepentant in their practice of homosexuality is also living a viable lifestyle for the Christian.

One of the clearest examples is punk “pastor” Jay Bakker, head of what’s becoming known as outlaw preachers. I also told you in The Emerging Church Highjacking Evangelicalism that for the EC to advance this pet issue into mainstream ecangelicalism they would first have to kick out the Protestant pillar of Sola Scriptura.

In addition I revealed that I have felt led to focus attention upon the sin of homosexuality right now as here we’re able to light up the night sky with the Word of God; and as we have been doing so, you should now be able to see the advance of enemy forces because the sinfulness of homosexuality is as clear as it gets in Scripture.

Apparently Bakker is upset by this as you’ll see in Jay Bakker Says where he complains of “ignorant” ministers like me who won’t sit idly by as he continues lying to GLBTQ people, for whom Christ died. Bakker has repeatedly refused to discuss the issue from Scripture, and with very good reason: The affirmation of homosexuality cannot be made from the Bible.

Even the notorious heretical “Bishop” John Shelby Spong, a scholar slithering along the liberal lines of Living Spiritual Teacher and “Progessive Christian” scholar Marcus Borg, admits the Bible—God’s Word (and Jesus is God)—condemns the practice of homosexuality. Consider the following two video clips below from a November 1989 edition of The John Ankerberg Show.

Spong is discussing homosexuality with the late Christian scholar Dr. Walter Martin. Spong, who unlike Jay Bakker is a qualified scholar, tells John Ankerberg that the Bible text condemns homosexuality as sin. At the tail end of the first clip, into the beginning of the second, to try and make his case Spong is reduced to having to attack the verbal and plenary inspiration of Scripture itself:

Spong: But let me say that I do not disagree that homosexuality is condemned in Scripture. I do not agree with that.

Ankerberg: Yes, you’ve said that before.

Spong: I think that is obvious. It’s in Leviticus; it’s in the Sodom and Gomorrah story; it’s in the Pauline  corpus at least, and probably some other places…

Ankerberg: All right, we’re…

Spong: The issue in my mind is not that. The issue is whether or not the people who lived at the time of the Bible and who wrote about homosexuality understood the scientific meaning of homosexuality. (Spong/Martin Debate on Sexual Ethics, transcript 9, 10, emphasis mine)
