ADAM WALKER CLEAVELAND SAYS JESUS WAS WRONG

Here in this companion piece to Adam Walker Cleaveland On “Jerky” Jesus, below Apprising Ministries features an extended clip by Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough from his Fighting For The Faith program on his Pirate Christian Radio network.

Within it Rosebrough brings out the insolence of Adam Walker Cleaveland, as one professing to be a Christian minister, to say Jesus was “wrong” and further that Christ—Love in human flesh—“was just being kind of jerky” when He dealt with the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30.

How foolish of Cleaveland to dare try and “correct” Jesus in order to attempt to advance the doctrines of demons spewed from the seducing spirits operating within the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—morphing into Emergence Christianity (EC).

For more detail see the post mentioned above, but briefly, Cleaveland is a 29-year-old Minister for Youth & Young Adults who works closely with Emergent Village and bills himself as a Progressive Christian. Cleaveland is hooked deeply into the EC and e.g. is a friend of EC luminary Tony Jones, “theologian in residence” at the church of heretical quasi-universalist EC pastor Doug Pagitt.

Sadly, because it never occurs to these prideful progressive Christians that they can be wrong, they immediately think that anyone who would dare criticize their supposedly superior erudition must be angry. Cleaveland Tweets:

I shouldn’t be – but I am listening to this (http://j.mp/1571Dv). It’s actually pretty funny if you’re up for it. #fb (Online source)

Wow. Some people were really pi**ed by my sermon: http://j.mp/1571Dv & http://j.mp/4Duvq5 & http://j.mp/Z1vKj must feel very threatened. #fb (Online source)

Sorry to burst your bubble there Adam, but as one whom you include in your above flattery of yourself, I tell you there’s nothing “funny” in what we’ll all hear below and I admonish you to get outside of your stupid circle (see—Proverbs 12:1) once and awhile out into the real world.

The fact is, I was neither angry nor was I threatened; I know Who called me, I know what’s He’s taken me through thus far, and I know what Jesus has called me to do. And part of my calling involves warning people pretending to be ministers of the Gospel to repent, before it’s too late:

[Jesus] said to His disciples, “It is inevitable that stumbling blocks come, but woe to him through whom they come!” … Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. (Luke 17:1; James 3:1, NASB)

Now in this clip below Chris Rosebrough plays Cleaveland’s “sermon” Rethinking Church: If Jesus can be wrong…, where using Mark 7:24-30, Cleaveland foolishly attempts to make a case that Jesus was “wrong,” and the Syrophoenician woman He is speaking with, “won the argument” in the text.

Rosebrough then contrasts Cleaveland’s nonexistent god of Open Theism—who is essentially a bigger version of humankind having a man-shaped hole in its heart—with a short, but Biblical, sermon from Rev. Jeremy Rhode of Faith Lutheran Church, Capistrano Beach, CA.

Below you’ll hear Rosebrough point out that in Adam Walker Cleaveland’s gross mishandling handling of Mark 7:24-30, to call into question the historic orthodox Christian faith and open the door for inclusion of those practicing the sin of homosexuality, we’ll be experiencing “eisegesis on a grand scale.”

And then Rosebrough quotes Cleaveland back to himself:

[Jesus] doesn’t come across as the Jesus we all imagine in this story? Adam…if you are judging Jesus, based upon the fact that He doesn’t-He’s not the Jesus that you imagine, you’ve got a problem. Our imaginations regarding Jesus need to bend their knee to the Biblical, historical Jesus; [in other words] the real One… Whoa [quoting Cleaveland], “Jesus was wrong”?

You just said Jesus was wrong. Unbelievable; that is not what is at the heart of this text. Jesus [saying], “Oh, I was wrong. Ok, I’ll heal you; I’ll heal your daughter.” Dude, that is just terrible exegesis, and awful Christology. Jesus was wrong?! No sir, you’re the one who’s wrong, for thinking Jesus was wrong. Keep in mind, He’s God in human flesh; God is never wrong.

Unbelievable… What; God changed because humanity called God into question? This is a fanciful interpretation, at best; it’s heretical at worst… [As if] God saying, “Ok, you’re right. Yeah, thanks for calling me on that.”
