For at least the past six years now online apologetics and discernment ministries like Lighthouse Trails Research, as well as here at Apprising Ministries, have warning about the sinfully ecumenical [i.e. Reformation repudiating] Emergent Church aka the Emerging Church.
Sadly, it’s now grown into a neo-liberal cult operating within evangelicalism infecting it with their new postmodern form of Progressive Christian quasi-universalism under their spiritual circus “big tent” Emergence Christianity.
Without a doubt one of the EC’s most influential early leaders was Tony Jones, who is a “doctoral fellow in practical theology at Princeton Theological Seminary” as well as “theologian-in-residence at Solomon’s Porch,” which is the gathering of EC universalist pastor Doug Pagitt.
In addition, it also seems Jones wants us to know that he is apparently “a sought after speaker and consultant in the areas of emerging church, postmodernism, and Christian spirituality.”
He is certainly an educated man, which you should keep in mind as I point you to his piece today entitled This Is the Last Post I’ll Ever Write about Ken Silva, filled as it is with ad hominems and red herrings.
Personally, I think we would hope for more substance from someone as obviously erudite as Dr. Tony Jones, his having written numerous periodicals and books, no.
As near as I can tell from my vantage point this sums up his thoughts concerning my labors in the Lord:
I encourage you, if you care for what is good in the world, and if you want to protect your own soul from hatred, gossip, and slander, to never again click on a link of his.
(Online source, emphasis his)
Hatred, gossip, and slander. It might just be me, but I didn’t see him actually address any evidence of it.
That said, I really must say I am of the impression that in his post, this is pretty much what I just read.
