Apprising Ministries continues our coverage of the sad slide in the love of self (cf. 2 Timothy 3:2) going on within apostatizing mainstream evangelicalism.

While the Church Growth Movement is at the heart of it, it was seriously accelerated by its infected arm which became known as the Emerging Church aka the Emergent Church.

Other than its sinful ecumenicism, the EC’s main claim to fame was to spread the cancer of corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM), which was a core doctrine from its hatching in hell.

In fact, CSM is the root of the Rodney King theology—exemplified by the blight of the Elephant Room—which essentially whines: “Can’t we all get just along?” As I’ve said before: No, we can’t; and further, it isn’t God’s will that we set aside proper doctrinal beliefs for some form of false unity.

As this fad of CSM spreads within the heart of the church visible that Word Faith prosperity preachers like T.D. Jakes are now considered mainstream evangelical. This become so sad that popular Seeker Driven/attractional megapastor Steven Furtick can openly declare: T.D. Jakes Is My Favorite Preacher In The World.

It’s quite common with those caught up with Word Faith fantasy to claim direct revelations from God. You’ll see an example in the video within Elephant Room 2′s T.D. Jakes’ Spiritual Daughter Paula White In The News as she “preaches” her mythology right in front of Jakes while at his The Potter’s House “church.”

The evangelical fad of CSM has now slithered so far that it’s even emboldened ostensibly conservative evangelicals to openly discuss their own personal revelations allegedly from God. Virtually every other word out of Rick Warren and/or Beth Moore’s mouth is “God told me,” “the Lord showed me,” etc.

Know that the Southern Baptist Convention is not alone, we see this kind of Counter Reformation spirituality corrupting the “New Calvinist” camp as well; e.g. Tim Keller Emerging As Contemplative Proponent and John Piper, Rick Warren & Foster-Willardism and Mark Driscoll Has Personal Revelations From Jesus.

As I’ve said before, all of this is going to lead to sola experientia as opposed to the proper Christian spirituality of sola Scriptura. In addition, we’re now being set up for “dueling revelations.” So we’ll witness one person will claim God said this to them while another will counter that the Lord said that to them.

Remember, it is as I told you e.g. in Tony Campolo: “Christian Mysticism ”Trumps The Bible. We really shouldn’t be surprised because the Lord’s Reformers were reacting to the very same thing when they emphasized sola Scriptura. Quite naturally I’ve been quite critical of all this kind of pietistic theology by liver shiver.

With all this mind then, let me tell you now that the Lord spoke to me this morning during morning devotion and meditation upon His infallible and inerrant Word in the Bible. In closing this, for now, I’ll share what God says about this current glut of “successful” church-planting multi-site megapastors:

And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. (Luke 16:15)
