PUTTING FACES ON WORD OF FAITH VICTIMS
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Jan 23, 2013 in AM Missives, Current Issues, Features, Word Faith
As an online apologetics and discernment ministry (OADM) Apprising Ministries covers a growing array of apostasy as the Lord continues sending spiritual blindness across professing Christendom in the U.S.
I have been writing quite a bit recently about what I’m calling the ecumenical evangelical magisterium (EEM), which really seemed to jell after the Elephant Room 2 council of James MacDonald and Mark Driscoll.
One EEM member I’ve kept highlighted for you is two-time ER vet, Seeker Driven prophet-leader Steven Furtick, who heads up Elevation Church (EC). EC has recently been listed among the Top 5 fastest growing churches. ((http://bit.ly/149i8IY, accessed 1-23-13.))
Now, by including him at ER, MacDonald and Driscoll have helped Furtick’s exposure even more; particularly into the young, restless, & quasi-Reformed camp. MacDonald and Driscoll also did something else of note.
In ER2 they brought in reputed modalist T.D. Jakes, lobbed him a few softball questions concerning his views on the cardinal doctrine of the Holy Trinity, and essentially allowed Jakes to affirm both positions simultaneously.
They completely ignored the Word Faith prosperity preaching of T.D. Jakes and pronounced their blessing upon him. This was just a couple of weeks after Steven Furtick highlighted Jakes in his Code Orange Revival (COR).
As a matter of fact, Furtick would actually announce to us all: T.D. Jakes Is My Favorite Preacher In The World. What is more Steven Furtick would proudly confess at COR, which was held at his own EC:
if you’ve never heard T.D. Jakes preach; listen, you have heard Bishop T.D. Jakes preach. Let me explain that. Every preacher who has anything to say rips off Bishop T.D. Jakes. Bishop T.D. Jakes is the preacher—if you attend this church—who feeds your soul every single week.
And you didn’t even ever know to write him a thank you note. Most of us quit apologizing for how much we ripped-off Bishop T.D. Jakes a long time ago, because we were taking more time in our sermons attributing the credit to him for the way he fed our souls than we were actually preaching.
That should hit you as a rather startling announcement from one of mainstream evangelicalism’s most influential young superstars. WF prosperity preacher T.D. Jakes “feeds” the souls at Furtick’s EC “every single week?”
Being that many of the EEM were also at COR, not to mention now regularly preach to each other’s flocks, I think it would be a good idea to find out just who’s among this most “of us/we” Furtick is talking about here.
Really; what does it say about evangelicalism when the “souls” of these purported ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are “fed” by the Word Faith heresies of T.D. Jakes to the point where they’ve “ripped-off” his teachings?
Since the focus of this piece is on a couple of the victims of Word Faith mythology, I’m only going to show you one direct fruit of the “ministry” of T.D. Jakes. WF pastrix Paula White claims Jakes as her spiritual father. ((See e.g. ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: T.D. JAKES AND PAULA WHITE and T.D. JAKES’ SPIRITUAL DAUGHTER PAULA WHITE TO LEAVE WORD FAITH MOVEMENT AND DROP TITLE PASTOR?!))
In fact, she even likens their relationship to Paul and Timothy: “As Paul Is To Timothy, So T.D. Jakes Is To Me.” Below White is preaching the classic Word Faith sow a seed of money so God will be obligated to bless you.
By the way, she’s doing so here for her spiritual father T.D. Jakes at his The Potter’s House in December of 2010:

Now here’s Pastrix Paula’s spiritual daddy T.D. Jakes himself preaching the same false doctrine from one of his yearly appearances helping TBN fleece their flock through their bi-annual Praise-A-Thon:

As a former WF victim myself, I can speak firsthand as to just how devastating this type of heretical preaching actually is. It offers a false hope and brings believers into despair when the promised miracle doesn’t come.
For you see, in WF mythology, if you don’t receive one it isn’t the fault of the spiritual snake oil salesman; no, if you don’t get your “breakthrough” it’s because you haven’t sufficiently worked up your faith to “believe God.”
You need to understand this is the kind of preaching that men in the EEM like James MacDonald, Mark Driscoll, Steven Furtick et al have now opened the door for, and are actively bringing, into mainstream evangelicalism.
The example of Word Faith victims below comes in relation to a dear gullible couple who’re sowing seed, i.e. money, into the ministry of Benny Hinn as they hope for a miraculous breakthrough for the healing of their son.
Hear they are, professing believers but for a few months, before one of the most notorious of WF heretics. You’ll see Hinn lie to them, and to their son, who has apparently been pronounced terminal because of a tumor.
Before you’re tempted to disregard what I’ve showed you as being too far-fetched, then consider Louie Giglio, Passion 2013, And Jesus Culture. Giglio brought in the band/movement Jesus Culture (JC) to his Passion 2013.
In Friends Of Bethel Church, Home Of Jesus Culture I documented for you that JC bills itself as not “just a band, but…a ministry of Bethel Church (BC).” ((http://www.facebook.com/jesusculture, accessed 1-22-13.)) You see, JC is an outreach of this BC church of pastor Bill Johnson.
So in closing this, for now, let me introduce you to one of those that Jesus Culture’s Bethel Church recommends on its own church website as Friends of bethel:

Yes, it is this very same Benny Hinn below:
