So let’s consider that we now have on our hands the Love Wins mythology of EC rock star pastor Rob Bell, where a supposed minister of the Gospel is actually pressing forth the argument for Christian Universalism—contra evangelicalism—while still being considered an evangelical in good standing himself.

Now think that Fuller Theological Seminary, “an evangelical, multidenominational, international, and multiethnic community,” [2] sponsors the podcasts of heretical EC universalist Doug Pagitt and Dr. Tony Jones, his equally heretical progressive/liberal “theologian in residence” at his Emerging Church, is now a professor with FTS. [3]

By this point you ought to be able to see we have some very real problems inside the church visible, and particularly within the mainstream of the evangelical community. Today Jones tweeted that his latest book has dropped:

(Online source)

It’s very telling that Jones would want to make sure we see that Living Spiritual Teacher and EC guru Brian McLaren, part of the unholy EC apostate trinity with Jones and Pagitt, has pronounced his blessing upon Jones’ book. Even Phyllis Tickle, the very Empress of Emergence herself, gushes:

Jones’s…research is…the experiential knowledge and realistic assessment of one who has been in the movement from its inception in this country…

This is one piece of work that…[is] a way of charting not only where Emergence is, but also where it has to go and is going. (Online source)

But that’s for another day; here we’re concerned with what Tony Jones is revealing about his own spiritual life of immorality. First, we see the other day he tweeted:

(Online source)

The post he brings us to is also most revealing:

(Online source)

Now Tony Jones—a leading progressive/neo-liberal theologian in the Emerging Church—announces that he adheres to the flawed philosophy of relativism, which we really don’t find all that surprising. However, it does speak loudly as to why Jones has absolutely no business whatsoever teaching within the evangelical community—let alone at one of its leading institutions instructing in Christian spirituality.

The question you need to ask is how possibly can a moral relativist truly be an orthodox Christian minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ without adhering to the moral absolutes of God’s inerrant and infallible Word in the Bible? Answer: He couldn’t. You see, a relativist believes that the subjective experience of another may be true for them; and ultimately that there is no known transcendent truth.

Jones quotes Fish:

Neither “I believe in moral absolutes” nor “I don’t” will be a reason in the course of ordinary, non-philosophical, deliberation.

Now that’s some pragmatism that I can believe in! (Online source)

However, pragmatism is not at all in line with the Christian who is a doulos i.e. slave of God through Christ Jesus; but it is perfectly suited for an apostate rebel against the final authority of Holy Scripture. The truth is, the relativist can never arrive at any actual absolutes because they always have to concede that the beliefs of another might be true for them.

Not only is relativism totally antithetical to Christianity, it’s also self-defeating. To make the statement “truth is relative” is to state an absolute, which we’re to then take as true. Well, if this is a truthful statement, then not all truth is relative, and so, that initial proposition is false. It’s just a sinful way of thinking in a futile attempt to avoid moral absolutes.

That noted, the philosophy of relativism does happen to be a perfect fit for fools like Dr. Tony Jones who wish to argue in favor of practices of sexual immorality. In Christianity 21 To Attack Christian Sexuality I brought to your attention a July 11th blog post by Jones where he quotes the homosexual writer Dan Savage, whom he calls “America’s premier sex advice columnist.”

Jones lets us know that Savage opines “monogamy is right for many couples” but some:

people need more than one partner, [Savage] writes, just as some people need flirting, others need to be whipped, others need lovers of both sexes. (Online source)

Keep in mind here that I’m having to cover these kinds of delicate sexual issues now because people like Tony Jones, with their spiritually deviant desires, are considered mainstream evangelicals. Now that we noted this, the people who would need “lovers of both sexes,” and thus multiple sexual partners, would be the bisexuals of the LGBT community.

As I continue, this will be important to keep in mind because Jones—an aggressive advocate for that LGBT community—then attacks monogamy himself:

This, of course, will immediately irk most Christians. Christianity has traditionally — although not unequivocally — held to a strict standard of monogamy…the American moment was a particularly puritanical. (Online source)

Can you see; Tony Jones has just fired the first shot in marshalling an assault, from within the evangelical community, upon the proper Biblical Christian ethic of monogamy within the marriage of a man to a woman. Jones then, at the very least, hints of a belief in the fairy tale for adults that is the theory of evolution when he says:

Savage’s sexual ethic is primarily one of realism: human beings are animals who, until very recently, procreated like animals. It is evolutionarily dishonest to demand monogamy of a species predisposed against it. It’s not impossible to be monogamous, he says, but it is super difficult,… (Online source, bold his)

Quite obviously, this does not fall in line with a Biblical worldview; but it would be just fine for a relativist like Tony Jones. Although Dr. Jones makes an error logically as he commits the fallacy of argumentum ad populum, I want you to look very carefully at what he says next:

I do know a few things: 1) [Savage is] a h**luva lot more realistic about sex than most Christians I’ve talked to about sex; 2) based on my experience on this blog and at the Wild Goose Festival, a lot of Christians really want to talk about sexuality; and 3) many Christians are ready for our conversations about sexuality to expand beyond “what to do with the gays,” and instead have a more fully-orbed dialogue about sexuality and human identity.

I also know that, for the first time in my life I’ve met Christians who are in “open” marriages or are practicing polyamory — and I’m committed that my theological/ethical response to them be both Christian and pragmatic/realistic. (Online source)

Behold where the Emerging Church will now begin trying to move the younger sectors of evangelicalism, who like the leaders in the neo-liberal cult within the EC, largely do not hold to sola Scriptura themselves: open marriages and practicing polyamory (many partners). Here you have a professor of Christian spirituality with a well known ostensibly evangelical seminary arguing against monogamy.

Do you see a problem here? Do you think this is all going to just go away if we simply ignore it? Do you really think that Tony Jones will magically stop pushing the evil pro-gay agenda, which has to argue that polyamory is acceptable for the Christian because of the bisexuals in the LGBT community? And he’s just told you that he knows “Christians” who “are practicing polyamory.”

This is why I’ve been telling you that evangelicalism is only now beginning to pay the price for years and years of using their own Young Adult and Youth ministries as human guinea pigs for Emergent apostates like Tony Jones and Doug Pagitt. I truly wonder, what in the world will it finally take for evangelical leaders to see that their fruit is just as absolutely rotten as it possibly gets?

In closing this, for now, you need to know there’s good reasons for Jones to argue for polyamory for the Christian, he may have a personal reason and Rachel Swan from Sweet Bi and Bi attends Solomon’s Porch. In her post Our Soapbox Swan tells us:

if you look over ——> there in the sidebar, you will note that one of the communities I heart is Solomon’s Porch. Sweetie and I started attending a little over a year ago… From the website “Solomon’s Porch is a community seeking to live the dreams and love of God in the way of Jesus.”… Last night, Sweetie and I gave a soapbox sermon. Its not so much sermon-y, but more a talk like thing. (Online source)

Swan also informs us that she’s a, “Bartender turned God chaser, Queer (bi), Un-Cool, Friend to the Other”; and of her “soapbox” with her female companion, and Tony Jones would tweet to his friend Rachel Swan concerning her talk like thing:

(Online source)

It’s one thing to talk about sexuality according to Scripture. However, let me put this into proper perspective for you; clearly here we have relativist Fuller Theological Seminary professor Tony Jones, at the very least, using the argument of Dan Savage in his attempt to make a case for “open marriages” and “practicing polyamory.” In Biblical terms, Jones is pushing for sexual immorality.

The key questions then become: Is this really evangelicalism; for that matter, is it even Christianity?

________________________________________________________________________________
End Notes:

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
(2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

Hating Biblical Doctrine Makes Strange Bedfellows

As part of our labors in the Lord along the Internet Front the online apologetics and discernment work Apprising Ministries closely monitors Intel along the Net not unlike secular Military Intelligence. The weak-kneed milquetoasts among us would like to make you forget that we are in a war for the souls of men. However, the opening text of Scripture above reminds us of this fierce battle and that we’re to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God.

In other words, we’re not simply here on some picnic where we walk hand-in-hand down a Primrose Lane; we’re supposed to be fighting the good fight of the faith (1 Timothy 6:12). Notice it doesn’t say, take the long vacation and join together with the enemies of the cross of Christ (Philippians 3:18), such as apostate Emergent Church universalist pastor Doug Pagitt and his fellow apostate, progressive/liberal “theologian in residence” at his Emerging Church, Dr. Tony Jones.

Don’t believe that they’re hostile to the Gospel; then actually make the time to read Christianity 21 To Attack Christian Sexuality where I show you that Jones has already begun pressing forward an argument in favor of open marriage and polyamory (many sexual partners) as acceptable for the Christian. If you want to know how low the bar is in the visible church right now, then consider that Tony Jones is set to teach “The Doctor of Ministry cohort in Christian Spirituality” at Fuller Theological Seminary. [1]

For the doctrinally impaired, let me explain Jones’ messing around with practices of Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) [2] that has led him into apostasy in the first place. So explain to me again why ostensibly evangelical FTS, with its professing Calvinist president Richard Mouw, would want a progessive/liberal universalist teaching his CSM to its students. Here’s another little tidbit of info for you; I have also shown you that Fuller Seminary Sponsors Emerging Church Heretic Doug Pagitt.

Hmm, I wonder if the FTS president Richard Mouw’s included in what you’re about to see. Today Doug Pagitt would tweet:

(Online source)

The link takes us to Pagitt’s web site and his post How the Neo-Calvinist Cabal is ruining Evangelicalism – Doug Pagitt in conversation with Roger Olson:

(Online source)

We’ll come back to this; first, a cabal is being used in a negative sense as referring to “a small group of secret plotters, as against a government or person in authority.” And secondly, I told Doug Pagitt:

(Online source)

Not surprisingly Pagitt made a point to tell me that he includes me among those people he’s accusing of “ruining” evangelicalism:

(Online source)

So I let him know, forget evangelicalism, I don’t even believe Pagitt’s regenerated:

(Online source)

Not that I would necessarily expect him to, but quite obviously Doug Pagitt’s not aware that I publicly broke with evangelicalism three years ago. The reason being, the Lord be praised, I could see spiritually spineless evanjellyfish leaders would eventually allow emerging apostates to set up shop right within their camp. I wanted be very clear I had no part in that kind of toady middle-of-the-road mushiness, which brings me nicely back to Doug Pagitt and Roger Olson.

If you don’t know, Roger Olson “is Professor of Theology at George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University,” as well as the author of numerous textbooks and books including Against Calvinism: Rescuing God’s Reputation from Radical Reformed Theology. He’s a very well known theologian within the mainstream of the visible church; and that the Arminian Roger Olson is sounding less like an A.W. Tozer and more like a Doug Pagitt gives you an indication of his continued downward spiral.

As a matter of fact, at around 2:04 into part two below, Olson muses:

I have a vision of evangelicalism as a big tent. That’s my metaphor for evangelicalism. I grew up in a very revivalistic wings of evangelicalism and we had tent meetings in the summer. And people would come and sit around the outside of the tent—as well as under the tent. You know, it’s kind of hard to tell exactly who was after revival, and who was just there to visit and look on.

And I see evangelicalism as made up of many different theologies; I mean, it’s not like anything goes—it’s not a circus—but, I see it as diverse. And we gather around a center; rather than within boundaries, is the way I like to put it. It’s a centric set; and the Gospel is the center.

Sure, that sounds very pious, but here’s the key question: If Roger Olson’s including the likes of Emerging Church apostate universalists like Doug Pagitt and Rob Bell, exactly which Gospel is it we’re supposed to rally around? Should it be the Love Wins mythology of Bell? Well, since Roger Olson also includes apostate Roman Catholicism as “evangelical,” even though the Church of Rome anathematized the Gospel, then maybe he thinks their sacramental system would be the gospel that we are agreed upon. This really isn’t about Arminianism and Calvinism at all; it’s about the Gospel itself.

Here’s the heart of the matter: There’s a growing syncretism that’s now attempting to swallow the church.

Now we need to get set for C21 #2 as the other day Doug Pagitt would tweet:

(Online source)

The link takes us here:

(Online source)

We’re also reminded that it’s been a few years since the initial C21 heresy-fest:

(Online source)

Now we can see that, in addition humanity and spirituality, C21 will be focused upon sexuality. As fitting with his usual M.O. our apostate FTS professor Tony Jones began pushing the envelope with his July 11 post What’s a Christian to Do with…Dan Savage? Savage happens to be a gay man who’s behind the It Gets Better project for the LGBT community and is actually rather hostile to the Christian faith.

He’s also editor of The Stranger and is best known for his syndicated column Savage Love. Neither of these are appropriate for the Christian, which is why I did not link to them. Jones tells us his Savage post:

(Online source)

So Jones would have us believe there’s something “strangely compelling” that “should, or must, be taken seriously” in the work of Dan Savage. It seems rather peculiar for a professor with a major seminary reputed to be mainstream evangelical to “confess” to us that:

almost every week, I pick up a copy of the City Pages, the Twin Cities alt weekly, during a regular Wednesday meeting at Common Roots in Minneapolis. And when I do, I immediately flip to the back pages where, between ads for erotic massage and gay love phone lines, I find Savage Love, the column of America’s premier sex advice columnist, Dan Savage.

In fact, it seems that Savage may be America’s premier sex ethicist as well. (Online source)

Resisting the urge to wrestle with the snake here, I’ll simply say that I personally find this choice of regular reading material kind of odd for a supposed Christian minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Leaving that aside, Tony Jones tells us that Savage “was reared Catholic, and he’s now an agnostic, or atheist.” Jones also informs us that:

In any case, he is an outspoken opponent of religion. However, unlike other atheists I follow on Twitter and elsewhere — Penn Gillette and Bill Maher, to name a couple — I find Savage far more interesting, far more compelling, and far more important for me, as a Christian theologian, to take seriously. (Online source)

Again, this strikes me as an unusual statement. Now we hit the heart of the matter and why I’m drawing this column to your attention as it pertains to the upcoming C21. Pay careful attention as Jones points out that “Savage was profiled at length in the New York Times by Mark Oppenheimer.” Note that the issue of mongamy is the subject of the quote below as Jones says:

In, “Infidelity Will Keep Us Together,” Oppenheimer writes,

Savage believes monogamy is right for many couples. But he believes that our discourse about it, and about sexuality more generally, is dishonest. Some people need more than one partner, he writes, just as some people need flirting, others need to be whipped, others need lovers of both sexes.

We can’t help our urges, and we should not lie to our partners about them. In some marriages, talking honestly about our needs will forestall or obviate affairs; in other marriages, the conversation may lead to an affair, but with permission. In both cases, honesty is the best policy. (Online source)

Here we’re actually getting a prequel as to where “sexuality” will be headed for C21; it will begin to attack the proper Biblical sexuality within the marriage of a man to a woman. It’s not hard to figure out as Jones opines:

This, of course, will immediately irk most Christians. Christianity has traditionally — although not unequivocally — held to a strict standard of monogamy. At least in theory. In practice, Christian men have, over the last two millennia, had the opportunity for sexual dalliances through mistresses, concubines, and prostitutes. Of course, there were puritanical moments in history, but the American moment was a particularly puritanical. (Online source)

Can you see; Tony Jones has already fired the first shot. Of course, Satan’s servants always have a little truth to sweeten the taste of their poison lies. You ask, “did you just say this professor for FTS is a servant of Satan?” Yes, absolutely. Now, Jones is right when he says, “Christianity has traditionally — although not unequivocally — held to a strict standard of monogamy.” Then he tries to use the fact that sinners are prone to sin to somehow normalize “sexual dalliances through mistresses,” etc.

I’m actually a little surprised by this tactic from Dr. Jones, who as a “Christian theologian,” should know he’s using a non sequitur. Just because people who profess to be Christian have committed the sin of sexual immorality—regardless of how they did so—it does not logically follow this should be taken as legitmate behavior for the Christian. I can almost hear the hiss as Jones says the deviant ideas expressed by Savage “will immediately irk most Christians”; but we note, apparently not Tony Jones.

Of course we find those statements abhorrent; they are counter to what God has outlined as proper Christian spirituality in His inerrant and infallible Word in the Bible. Yet, it seems for Jones, those who would hold “to a strict [Biblical] standard of monogamy” are “a particularly puritanical” bunch. Again, there’s some truth to this because the Puritans did try and order their lives by what God said in Holy Scripture; but the C21 brood within the Emerging Church is now attacking that kind of life, i.e. godliness.

This becomes painfully obvious as Jones furthers his outright assault on Biblical morality while he praises Savage; whom he tells us would draw the sexual line at “pedophilia.” For now anyway; Jones continues:

The ethic of honesty is what Savage calls for in his column, week after week telling his readers that if they’ve got a kink or a fetish, they should tell their partner about it. And, if you’ve picked smartly, your partner should be GGG: good, giving, and game. (Online source, bold his)

I’m sorry that this has to be covered; but at the same time, I would never have allowed apostates like Tony Jones, lovers of self and rebels against God’s Word, to have set up shop in the mainstream of the church in the first place. The question you need to ask is: Why would a Christian theologian be attacking the Christian ethic of monogamy? Let me answer it this way; suppose you married a woman who has “a kink,” let’s say for arguments sake, of wishing to be bisexual and you’re a smart “GGG.”

You’d then have to be “giving, and game,” which means your “partner” requires at least one more sexual partner. Now you see, in order for those in the EC like Tony Jones to champion the pro-gay agenda of the LGBT community, they have to kick out monogamy; so that’s where they’re headed. Jones now, at the very least, hints of a belief in the fairy tale for adults that is the theory of evolution when he says:

Savage’s sexual ethic is primarily one of realism: human beings are animals who, until very recently, procreated like animals. It is evolutionarily dishonest to demand monogamy of a species predisposed against it. It’s not impossible to be monogamous, he says, but it is super difficult, and you’ll be more likely to succeed if your partner is GGG. (Online source, bold his)

Quite obviously, this does not fall in line with a Biblical worldview; which makes the next statement from a professor with an ostensibly evangelical institution rather startling. Yet Jones goes on to say, “I don’t know if Savage’s ethic jibes with a biblical, Christian view of sexuality.” Let me help here; no, it doesn’t. Now let’s be clear; the Christian will say that Dan Savage, and apparently Tony Jones, are welcome to their beliefs. That’s not the issue; the issues is, it is not Christian sexuality.

As I get ready to close this out, for now, Dr. Jones makes another error logically as he commits the fallacy of argumentum ad populum. However, it is most informative as to where C21 sexuality is headed because Jones reveals that he thinks Dan Savage is a “lot more realistic about sex” than:

most Christians I’ve talked to about sex; 2) based on my experience on this blog and at the Wild Goose Festival, a lot of Christians really want to talk about sexuality; and 3) many Christians are ready for our conversations about sexuality to expand beyond “what to do with the gays,” and instead have a more fully-orbed dialogue about sexuality and human identity.

I also know that, for the first time in my life I’ve met Christians who are in “open” marriages or are practicing polyamory — and I’m committed that my theological/ethical response to them be both Christian and pragmatic/realistic. (Online source)

Behold where C21 Emergence Christianity will now begin trying to move the younger sectors of evangelicalism who largely do not hold to sola Scriptura themselves: open marriages and practicing polyamory (many partners). That’s why I’ve been telling you evangelicalism is only beginning to pay the price for using their own Young Adult and Youth ministries as human guinea pigs for Emergent apostates like Tony Jones and Doug Pagitt. What will it finally take to see that their fruit is just as rotten as it gets?

Let me also give you a clearer picture of the hypocrisy inherent within the homosexual lobby and Dan Savage in particular. I’ll leave you with Homosexual Savage Bullies Conservative, While Promoting Anti-Bullying Campaign by Stacy Lynn Harp over at the Christian Post blog. Let me warn you, it’s not for the squeamish; but because of the Emerging Church and its corrupt Christianity 21 you need to know that:

homosexual sex columnist Dan Savage appeared in on the website Funny or Die that was intended to threaten Republican Rick Santorum, with the redefining of the name “Rick”.

The reason that this is concerning is because Dan Savage successfully did a smear campaign on Rick Santorum a few years ago, when he took Rick Santorum’s last name and added a nasty meaning to it. I’m sorry to have to do this to you, but I must share the definition that homosexual activist Dan Savage attached to Rick Santorum’s name,…

Sadly, to my knowledge, Dan Savage has been able to get away with this libel and not suffer any consequences for his actions. All that you have to do is Google Rick Santorum’s name and you can see the vilification.

Now, Dan Savage has launched another brutal attack on Rick Santorum – under the guise of humor – by threatening to redefine his first name, “Rick”. You can see the video at Funny or Die, but be warned: It’s pretty nasty.

Here’s the point of me bringing this up: Despite the fact that Dan Savage, who is a very militant homosexual activist (as proven by the aforementioned actions), ironically is the very same Dan Savage that started the “It Gets Better Project” in September of 2010. The purpose of the “It Gets Better Project” is to inspire hope in young people, presumably homosexual, who are facing harassment and bullying. Yes, you read that correctly.

So let’s get this straight… Homosexual sex columnist, Dan Savage, intentionally smears Republican Rick Santorum, simply because Rick states the truth about homosexual activity, so Savage intentionally libels Santorum and gets away with it, while at the same time sets up an ANTI-BULLYING PROJECT because he cares about others being bullied for being homosexual. Meanwhile, liberal outlets like CNN and The Washington Post enjoy Savage attacking Rick Santorum and make jokes about it…

It’s sad and yet it’s not surprising because, in this perverse age that we live in, good is called evil and evil is called good. The spirit working through Dan Savage is truly seeking to kill, steal and destroy anyone, like Rick Santorum, who stands up for biblical truth.

I just wonder how much the founder of an anti-bullying campaign can actually get away with bullying anyone who does not agree with his position. If it’s okay for a homosexual activist to libel a person online and then threaten to defame their first name online, and not suffer any consequences, then where is society going to draw the line? …

It is argued by those on the left, who are blinded by the spirit of the age, that homosexuals do not have special rights. The truth is that they completely have special rights. They have the right to bully, harass, intimidate, slander, vilify, libel and defame, with immunity, anyone who disagrees with the sin of homosexuality. So, the next time someone tries to convince you that there are no special rights for the homosexual community, please remember Rick Santorum and the actions of Dan Savage. (Online source)

Well said, Stacy.

By using warped and toxic teachings of EC leaders like Emerging Church rock star pastor Rob Bell the mainstream of the visible church has been poisoning its own young; and since squishy evanjellyfish has now followed the mortally wounded mainline denominations out of the closet, with its man-love of heart murmur spirituality at the expense the God-centered spirituality of sola Scriptura, I’ve also been giving you peeks at its bleak future of division and compromise of God’s Word.

Let me remind you here that, not only is Tony Campolo a leading spokesman for this postmodern progressive de-formation of the Christian faith—Liberalism 2.o—he’s also still quite influential within younger sectors of evangelicalism as well. It’s important to remember, that as admirable as some of his social concerns are, Campolo is actually in bed spiritually with his fellow Red Letter Christian (RLC) friends Living Spiritual Teacher and EC guru Brian McLaren and universalist Roman Catholic mystic Richard Rohr.

Other notable RLCs would be Campolo’s disciple Shane Claiborne, Jim Wallis, progressive/liberal historian Diana Butler Bass, and Tony Jones, the progressive “theologian in residence” at the Emerging Church of universalist Doug Pagitt; a spiritual motley crew if there ever was one. Against this background I’ll point you to the following tweet this morning by Campolo:

(Online source)

If you didn’t know “the Wild Goose” reference has a double meaning; first, Celtic Christianity calls the Holy Spirit an Geadh-Glas, the Wild Goose, and “teaches that the Holy Spirit is the representative of God’s femininity.”[1] Secondly, it’s the name of an upcoming apostasia-palooza called the Wild Goose Festival (WGF), which has the Emerging Church buzzing with excitement. The link Campolo provides takes us to Pentecost: The Coming of the Wild Goose by Jim Wallis where he informs us:

In two weeks, my family and I will be headed down to Shakori Hills, North Carolina for the Wild Goose Festival. In the Celtic Church, the symbol for the Holy Spirit is a wild goose — wild, free, and untamed. The festival will be a weekend of justice, spirituality, music, and the arts. It is an “and” kind of space, more than an “either/or.” It will, no doubt, be a busy weekend. But I am looking forward to it, not just for the activities, but for the reminder that it is by chasing after the wild goose, the Holy Spirit’s movement, that we see ourselves, and our world, transformed. (Online source)

As you watch the promotional video for WGF below you’ll see a veritable who’s who of heretics who’ll be embarking upon some Wild Goose Chase after another spirit (cf. 2 Corinthians 11:4); this includes all the people I’ve mentioned above, as well as others quite familiar to AM such as gay-affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker, self-professed “queer inclusive” ELCA pastrix Nadia Bolz-Weber, EC interspiritual leader Samir Selmanovic, Christian universalist Chad Holtz, and the Empress of Emergence Phyllis Tickle.

It’s also interesting to note that among the speakers we find outright purveyors of Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) in Living Spiritual Teacher and Jesuit priest John Dear as well as Carl McColman of the spiritually whacked website Anamchara and author of The Big Book of Christian Mysticism: The Essential Guide to Contemplative Spirituality. Dear is a disciple of Thomas Merton, the Golden Buddha of CSM and just take a look at who recommends McColman’s book:

The history section of WGF tells us:

The Wild Goose Festival began as a simple but potent idea: What if Greenbelt could happen in a unique United States context?

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Greenbelt is an arts, music, justice and spirituality festival that’s been happening in the UK for nearly 40 years. (Online source)

I talked about Greenbelt a couple of years ago in Greenbelt Festival A Peek At Future Inclusive Christianity where I explained it’s really another glimpse of the all-inclusive faith these Emergent Christ-followers find worth believing; and in fact, this perversion of the Christian faith may have already slithered into the Young Adult and Youth ministries of your own local church. Essentially, it’s really a spiritual free fall out into the delusion of creating your own Christianity with a mystic mush god made in your own image.

The wise Christian will have nothing to do with these neo-Gnostic fools who’ve unbuckled themselves from the Word of God and have embarked upon their Wild Goose Chase of subjective experience; with no gravity, they will only drift deeper into spiritual outer space. While debunking the mythology of Dallas Willard, a major perpetrator of CSM along with his twin Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster, Bob DeWaay hits upon the critical issue with this pragmatic existentialism:

If pragmatic tests are the means of determining which practices are valid, and if these people feel closer to God and more like Christ through their practices, then Willard has no valid way of rejecting their practices. Having no valid argument, he resorts to an invalid ad hominem argument.

He cannot have it both ways. Either God’s Word determines both how we come to God and how we grow in grace, or humans determine these things by pragmatic means. (Online source)

As I close this out, for now, I bring your attention to a piece by Dr. Al Mohler entitled An Unmitigated Theological Disaster — Kirby Godsey Strikes Again. You may wonder what this has to do with the Wild Goose Festival; in a word, everything. Consider the opening quote Mohler uses and, if you’ve been following what I’ve been covering here lately at Apprising Ministries, see if it doesn’t sound mighty familiar:

“Most Christians assume that Christianity is the one and only religion that is God-inspired and that carries the imprimatur of God’s blessing,” laments R. Kirby Godsey. In his new book, Is God a Christian?, Godsey sets out to oppose that assumption and to argue that “the stakes for mankind have grown too high for any of us to engage our faith as if our understanding of God represents the only way God’s presence may be known in the world.” (Online source)

Did you recognize the theme song of the emerging Wild Goose set; in Emerging Church Leader Samir Selmanovic Worships With Witches I told you this WGF speaker sings it this way:

Can it be that the teachings of the gospel are embedded and can be found in reality itself rather than being exclusively isolated in sacred texts and our interpretations of those texts? If the answer is yes, can it be that they are embedded in other stories, other peoples’ histories, and even other religions?…

God’s table is welcoming all who seek, and if any religion is to win, may it be the one that produces people who are the most loving, the most humble, the most Christlike. Whatever the meaning of “salvation” and “judgement,” we Christians are going to be saved by grace, like everyone else, and judged by our works, like everyone else…

For most critics of such open Christianity, the problem with inclusiveness is that it allows for truth to be found in other religions. To emerging Christians, that problem is sweet… Moreover, if non-Christians can know our God, then we want to benefit from their contribution to our faith.[2]

This is what underlies the Wild Goose mythology, and it’s not Christianity; it’s at best the heresy of Christian universalism, and at worst, it is pagan universalism. So, while Al Mohler is discussing someone not necessarily aligned with Emergent Wild Goosers, what he says fits these deluded dreamers perfectly:

In When We Talk About God … Let’s Be Honest, Godsey embraced positions that the church has openly declared to be heresy. In Is God a Christian?, Godsey just picks up where he left off in his earlier book, but this time he is even more explicit in his embrace of radical pluralism.

“Christians need to get over it,” he admonishes. “Jesus is not God’s only word.” As he explains, “Every person is a word from God that has never been spoken and will never be spoken again in exactly the same way.” He also admonishes Muslims to “get over it” when they claim exclusive status for the Qur’an. The very idea of exclusivity is a “peril” that “simply defies reason.”…

For the most part, Godsey studiously avoids engaging the biblical text. That is at least consistent with his marginalization of biblical authority. “The notions of inerrancy and infallibility are treacherous human fallacies,” he argues. In his earlier book, he had asserted that “the authority for our faith should not rest on the Bible alone, or even primarily.”…

Instead, he argues that Christians should “weigh scripture against the word that we have heard and seen from God in Jesus.” At this point, Godsey is left in an untenable position. What does he know of Christ apart from the Scriptures? This is a familiar predicament for liberals who deny biblical authority but claim a knowledge of Jesus. Whatever knowledge of Jesus we have apart from the Bible is just a figment of our imagination. If the Bible is not the authoritative source of divine knowledge, we are left with nothing more than our own imagination and arbitrary judgment. We can make Christianity anything we might want it to be.

In the place of the Bible, Godsey claims human reason as his authority. Thus: “No rational pathway can lead us to the conclusion that Christians alone or Muslims alone have sole access to the ultimate reality that underlies the meaning of the universe.” Based on that judgment, Godsey then argues that claims of exclusivity are immoral because such claims turn Christianity “into a self-centered, narcissistic religious system that says to the rest of the world that they must become like us if they wish to be accepted by God.”…

There are different forms of universalism and inclusivism within theological circles today, but the most intellectually embarrassing form of pluralism is the very one that Godsey champions. He writes as if all the religions of the world are basically similar, when even a cursory knowledge of the belief systems of the world reveals how dissimilar they are. Godsey does not even privilege monotheism, arguing that Christians should see adherents of all other religions as “equals before God.” (Online source)

You need to know that the people I mentioned earlier are all on that same broad path; some further along than others, but they are on it nonetheless. My question is: How far down this wide road to destruction does mainstream evangelicalism itself have to get before it finally recognizes the New Downgrade? The sad fact is, these associated with this Wild Goose Chase after another spirit have absolutely no business whatsoever teaching in the heart of the Christian community:

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. (Romans 16:17-18)

As I begin this piece here at Apprising Ministries I develop further an analogy I heard originally from Chris Rosebrough; The Build-A-God Shop, a venue where you can come in and share the characteristics of the god of your choosing. Then after you place your order, people scurry down to the basement of the store and get to work cobbling together your version of god to fit your specific set of speculations.

So it is right now with those furiously building a version of the mush god of mysticism with a man-shaped hole in his/her/its heart; as typified by the Emerging Church 2.0 with their new postmodern form of “big tent” Progressive Christianity—a Liberalism 2.0—sometimes referred to by these rebels against the final authority of God’s Word as Emergence Christianity.

I’ve told you before that this is what Living Spiritual Teacher and Emergent Church guru Brian McLaren, one of the unholy Emergent Church trinity of apostates along with universalist Emerging Church pastor Doug Pagitt, and his friend Tony Jones—the progressive “theologian in residence” at Pagitt’s Emergent Solomon’s Porch—began laying out more systematically in his book A New Kind of Christianity.

Another notable construction worker laboring on this bankrupt postmodern neo-liberalism is progressive/liberal theologian Dr. Philip Clayton with his deluded dream of Transforming Theology through the mental off-roading of Humpty Dumpty Language language where words take on whatever meaning an individual wishes them to have. It’s important to note here that Clayton is ”the new Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Claremont School of Theology.”[1]

You may also remember that CST is now developing “the first interreligious university” to “reach across boundaries” of various religious” traditions.[2] Clayton’s bio also tells us he’s a “panentheist” who “defends a form of process theology that is hypothetical, dialogical and pluralistic.”[3] Well isn’t that special; what it isn’t is Biblical, but that’s of little concern to these emerging architects over at The Build-A-God Shop.

What is process theology you ask; let’s go to something called Process & Faith (P&F), which is “a program of the Center for Process Studies, an affiliated program of the Claremont School of Theology.[4] We’re told:

(Online source)

As you should be able to see, the process theology above embraces panentheism. Simply put, this is not pantheism, all is God, but rather pan=all, en=in, theos=God; all is in God. Under its What is process theology? section P&F recommends God Beyond Orthodoxy: Process Theology for the 21st Century
by Philip Clayton who informs us that the “orthodox view of God has become problematic” for him; hence his reason for being at The Build-A-God Shop.

Clayton then explains:

According to process thought, you are an unending process of becoming, internally related to all things, one member in a cosmic community of becoming… But now I want to ask: What is the role of God in all of this? God is also an actual occasion (or, some would say, a series of actual occasions). Unlike the rest of us, however, God never forgets and God never passes out of existence. At every moment of your becoming, God prehends your valuations and your most intimate responses.

God takes them up into the divine life. And God becomes different as a result. At the next moment of your becoming, God offers back to you those valuations, and the experiences of all other living things, but now valued and interpreted from the divine perspective. The becoming God becomes a part of the becoming you. Then, in the next moment, you contribute your response to this becoming back, in an unending process of divine‐human (and divine‐nonhuman dialogue). That’s process theology in a nutshell. It is, I suggest, a powerful alternative to the traditional picture of God… (Online source)

Another time I’ll have more on this heretical process theology which, like its kindred heresy Open Theism, robs God of His sovereignty; for now though, this is some necessary background as you listen to the clips below from Doug Pagitt’s Memorial Day radio program. Like I pointed out in More On—The god Of The Emerging Church we’re dealing with fools who’re recasting God in their own image; i.e. another god enitrely, one with a man-shaped hole in his/her/its heart.

Now if you’re tempted to think this kind of Toxic Theology Of Doug Pagitt isn’t slithering closer to your local evangelical church I offer that you should consider Fuller Seminary Promoting Emerging Church Heretic Doug Pagitt and Fuller Theological Seminary Professor Tony Jones And Christian Spirituality Cohort. I also ask you to keep in mind here that, even though Fuller Theological Seminary has become a spiritual cesspool, it still remains quite influential within broader evangelicalism.

With this in mind then, I’ll tell you that the other day Doug Pagitt would tweet:

(Online source)

As you can see Pagitt’s guest is friend, and fellow apostate, Bruce Epperly; I introduced you to this uber-progressive process theologian in Big Tent Chrsitianity Is A Postmodern Progressive Liberalism where I told you Epperly wants to make sure we know that he’s “a teacher, spiritual guide, writer, lecturer, retreat leader, and reiki teacher”:

(Online source)

Our progressive process guru Bruce Epperly, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) who’s “co-pastor, with his wife Rev. Dr. Katherine Gould Epperly”[5] of Disciples United Community Church, also tells us:

Persons of faith are called to be global pioneers. Although you may be rooted in a particular religious tradition, you may also find spiritual nurture through the insights and practices of the historical religious traditions, native spiritualities, or the new spiritual movements of our time. You may, for example, attend church on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, and share fully in the ritual of Holy Communion. But, throughout the week, you may practice Zen Buddhist meditation or Transcendental Meditation, receive reiki or acupuncture treatments, or attend a Native American sweat lodge.

The challenge for spiritual pilgrims is to find creative ways to integrate the wisdom of their own faith with global spiritual practices.

Over the past several years, I have been involved in exploring progressive Jewish and Christian spirituality. Despite a tragic history, progressive Jews and Christians can learn much from each other’s traditions. We look for common ground not only in the affirmation of an active, loving, and personal God but also the celebration of a common history and complementary spiritual practices. I believe that Jews and Christians can deepen their spirituality by sharing each other’s spiritual practices, holy days, and theological insights.

God’s truth is larger than any religious tradition. As we share our faith, we do not seek to convert one another, but grow together by sharing a common spiritual adventure.
(Online source)

Remember, as I previously pointed out, this is a really, really, big tent so it’s no problem if you want to erect altars to Baal practice Zen Buddhist meditation or make Asherah poles zone out in Transcendental Meditation because “God’s truth is larger than any religious tradition.” In closing this, because of their panentheistic process theology where everything is supposedly already interconnected, now you understand why such as these “do not seek to convert one another, but grow together by sharing a common spiritual adventure.” In their mythology they believe that we’re already all one in God.

After-all, in his sermon On Becoming a Mystical Progressive at the aforementioned Process & Faith website, Epperly imagines:

We are discovering an intimate link between mind and body, and spirit and flesh, which allows room for prayer, meditation, and healing touch. We are learning that an interdependent, energetic universe, opens the door to new visions of spirituality, healing, and divinity. We are learning that the universe is multi-dimensional, surprising, and beautiful…that the harmony of the spheres in the macro and the micro is a reality, not just the dream of Pythagoras. (Online source)

So strap on your hard hat because with neo-Gnostic mystic dreamers like Doug Pagitt and Bruce Epperly you’re about to enter a very heavy construction zone deep within The Build-A-God Shop…

As part of our online apologetics and discernment labors Apprising Ministries been documenting the New Downgrade within evangelicalism, the root of which roughly begins with the charismatic revival as it spreads through the Jesus People/Movement circa early 1970′s out into various denominations and into what became the Fuller Theological Seminary School of World Mission.[1]

This is the spiritual cesspool from which the new liberalism of the seeker-friendly/sinner-sensitive methodology of letting culture define the church visible would spring. Then circa 2005 mainstream evangelicalism would became spiritually spineless and begin to embrace the warped and toxic teachings of EC leaders e.g. like the Emerging Church rock star pastor Rob Bell.

Sadly, in the very heart of the visible church we’ve seen this spiritual cancer metastasize throughout its body spreading the awful influence of sinfully ecumenical neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church aka the Emerging Church all throughout its ailing body. Now upgraded to the Emerging Church 2.0—with its newer, more clearly delineated, postmodern Progressive Christian theology, which these rebels against the final authority of the Word of God will often refer to under their circus “big tent” as Emergence Christianity.

You should know that the first line of attack upon the heart of the church visible by these rebels against the final authority of the Word of God was to batter down sola Scriptura, the key pillar of proper Christian spirituality. This is critical to understand because in articles like Jay Bakker Critiques Ken Silva At Religion Dispatches and Doug Pagitt And The Emerging Church Gay Agenda I’ve explained that the tip-of-the-spear for this area of attack upon proper biblical Christianity is gay-affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker of the “church” Revolution:NYC. Unfortunately the very near future for foolish evangelical leaders who’ve embraced these EC rebels against the authority of the Word of God can be seen simply by looking at mainline denominations, who long ago gave in to the Cult of Liberalism and kicked out sola Scriptura as well.

Currently they’re being torn apart by this powerful, and highly divisive, pro-gay lobby. Let me simply highlight for you where the battle lines are now being drawn; because of progressive/liberal rebels against the authority of the Bible masquerading as evangelicals like Doug Pagitt, the front line is already being moving closer to your own mainstream evangelical church than you likely realize. Perceived conservative evangelicalism had better heed the wake-up call; you’d best prepare for the very same debates within your own halls. It’s going to be a huge surprise, and soon, when evanjellyfish—unity at all costs—leaders find out that most professing Christians don’t actually hold to the final authority of God’s Word in the Bible at all. And so what are you then left with; doing what is right in your own eyes ala Judges 17:6.

In earlier articles, e.g. Gay Christian Singer Jennifer Knapp Out On Larry King Live, I’ve been doing what I can to remind you that there is indeed a same-sex storm gathering hurricane force, which is right now, looming only slightly off the horizon of the mainstream evangelical community. I also shared, once again, why the Lord moved me to begin covering the issue of a growing acceptance within evangelicalism that the deviant and sinful lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex, i.e homosexuality, is a viable one for the regenerated Christian. The imagery I’ve been using is that of fire bases in Vietnam, which were temporary artillery encampments there to provide fire support and quarters for ground operations near the front lines. Being so close to the front, in the dark of night many times enemy forces would try and move in for a sneak attack.

That’s why periodically flares were shot high above the area to light up the night sky in order to monitor any possible movement of enemy troops. And even in this spiritual war Satan’s seducing spirits sneak around in the darkness with their didaskaliais daimonion (doctrines of demons). Well, I’m using the issue of homosexuality to light up the sky with the Word of God to give you a chance to see the wide, and very rapid, advance of the Emerging Church and its postmodern Progressive Christian theology. Their full frontal attack on Biblical Christianity is also being pushed along by the corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) that’s responsible for creating the current evangelical fad of practicing what’s merely refried mysticism-lite of apostate Roman Catholicism.

Instead of going to Holy Scripture, now issues are instead being dealt with by how people feel about them. Against this background I now point you to a very interesting story by Kathleen Gilbert over at LifeSiteNews.com entitled Gay columnist: let’s face it, we want to indoctrinate children where she tells us:

As the same-sex “marriage” battle heats up again in New York, one writer at a prominent gay news source is questioning why his lobby refuses to admit that the gay agenda involves “indoctrinating” schoolchildren to accept homosexuality.

Queerty contributor Daniel Villarreal criticized (WARNING site contains inappropriate images) the homosexual movement’s knee-jerk reaction against accusations of meddling in public schools. Villarreal pointed to a recent National Organization for Marriage (NOM) ad launched in New York that points out how homosexual indoctrination has been introduced in Massachusetts and California schools.

While gay activists usually deny that they want to indoctrinate children, said Villarreal, “let’s face it—that’s a lie.” “We want educators to teach future generations of children to accept queer sexuality. In fact, our very future depends on it,” he wrote. (Online source)

The other day at the Twitter account of Queerty we find the following tweet:

(Online source)

As we follow the link it takes us to the piece Gilbert references from Daniel Villarreal Can We Please Just Start Admitting That We Do Actually Want To Indoctrinate Kids? Now I certainly don’t recommend you go to this Queerty website; that said, Villarreal is quite frank as he begins his honest article:

In response to New York’s recently introduced marriage equality bill, the so-called National Organization for Marriage got a bunch of pictures of black people and some guy who sounds like Foghorn Leghorn to repeat the same lies about indoctrinating schoolchildren that they ran in 2009. They accuse us of exploiting children and in response we say, “NOOO! We’re not gonna make kids learn about homosexuality, we swear! It’s not like we’re trying to recruit your children or anything.” But let’s face it—that’s a lie. We want educators to teach future generations of children to accept queer sexuality. In fact, our very future depends on it…

The battle over Tennessee’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” has made this most apparent. Why would anybody get all up in arms about punishing teachers who mention queers in the classroom unless we wanted teachers to do just that? … Why would we push anti-bullying programs or social studies classes that teach kids about the historical contributions of famous queers unless we wanted to deliberately educate children to accept queer sexuality as normal? …

The younger generation doesn’t fear homosexuality as much because they’re exposed to fags on TV, online, and at school. And I don’t know a single lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person who wants that to stop. I for one certainly want tons of school children to learn that it’s OK to be gay, that people of the same sex should be allowed to legally marry each other, and that anyone can kiss a person of the same sex without feeling like a freak…a lot of other people want to indoctrinate, recruit, teach, and expose children to queer sexuality AND THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. (Online source)

Pretty plain talk from Daniel Villarreal indeed; while in no way do I approve of the sin of same-sex sexual relations, I do respect Villarreal for being real. Now consider that, in their lust for number$, for nearly a decade pretending to be Protestant mainstream evangelical churches have used their Young Adult and Youth ministries as spiritual guinea pigs by using the marred materials of leaders in the Emerging Church. So when Christian singer Jennifer Knapp, one of the first more mainstream Christians to come out, the reaction of way too many evangelicals concerning their view of the Word of God in the Bible was really very telling. And I’ve mentioned before that Jesus led me onto this subject of homosexuality a couple of years ago to teach again that its practice is sin; and after-all, this is just about a crystal clear as it gets in Scripture. Yet, the debate’s begun…again.

Ironically, on the very same day that the above article from Daniel Villarreal came out, I was warning you again in PCUSA Votes To Allow Openly Gay Clergy that there’s a very dark and threatening same-sex storm—now rapidly approaching hurricane force—looming just off the coast of your own local evangelical church. So I must also humbly suggest that you seriously begin asking yourself, now that more and more—particularly within those younger sectors of the mainstream of evangelicalism—are conditioned to reject sola Scriptura (as those in mainline denominations once were), just how it is that you plan to respond when openly homosexual “Christ-followers” are held up as acceptable role models for your own Christian youth. Because you see, it’s only a matter of time…

This new, and not improved, progressive/liberal theology—a Liberalism 2.0—is what this sinfully ecumenical neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church will often refer to under their circus “big tent” as Emergence Christianity.

You’re likely aware of leaders within this EC—seeker driven for the “counter-culture”—movement like the Emerging Church trinity of apostates, Living Spiritual Teacher and EC guru Brian McLaren, universalist Emerging Church pastor Doug Pagitt, and his friend Tony Jones, the progressive “theologian in residence” at Solomon’s Porch. Having been embraced by spiritually obtuse evangelicals, false teachers such as these have long been teaching counterfeit forms of Christianity to young mainstream evangelicals.

EC rock star pastor Rob Bell likes to deny he’s with them; but I say, paraphrasing an old adage: If his doctrine looks Emergent, and it does; if it acts like Emergent, and it does; and if it sounds like Emergent, and it does…then it’s as just as Emergent as one of his favorite contemplative mentors Living Spiritual Teacher and Roman Catholic mystic Richard Rohr who, like most mystics eventually are deceived to believe, is a Christian Universalist.

This Rob Bell And Universalism is what has started a real firestorm as people began discussing a promotional video for Bell’s upcoming book, which Al Mohler astutely likened to a theological striptease. I can tell you that this is about the first time I’ve seen so many in the Emerging Church coming to the defense of one of their own.

For example, Bell’s friend Doug Pagitt—who’s told us universalism is too small for him—would tweet yesterday:

(Online source)

The link takes us to Can we overstate the Love of God? Unfortunately Pagitt’s asking the wrong question; what needs to be asked is: Can we overemphasize the love of God? You see, this is the heart of the matter; and the answer is, absolutely yes. The original liberals managed to create the mush god, and now these postmodern neo-liberals are falling into the exact same trap. Pagitt then goes on to say:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Online source)

Of course this is actually quoting Romans 8:38-39; however, Pagitt apparently doesn’t see that there is a condition for someone to experience the love of God being discussed there, one must be in Christ Jesus our Lord—this promise is only for the Body of Christ, the invisible Church. As professing Christian pastors Pagitt and Bell should know this; they have no business lying to people and promising the unregenerate they are in right standing before God.

The Bible is clear:

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God… Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:18, 36)

In closing this, for now, Dr. John MacArthur sets the record straight and offers the Good News of repentance and forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ Name:

The relationship of mercy and justice is a confusing one because on the surface they seem the exact opposite. Justice gives exactly what is deserved; mercy gives less punishment and more help than is deserved. So the great question is: How can God be both just and merciful at the same time? The truth is God does not show mercy without punishing sin. For Him to offer mercy without punishment would negate His justice.

Mercy that ignores sin is a false mercy and is all too common today. Some think it is unloving and unkind to hold people responsible for their sins. That is what is known as cheap grace—which is neither merciful nor just, nor does it offer punishment or pardon for sin. Because it overlooks sin, it leaves sin untouched and unforgiven. The one who relies on this sort of mercy is left in his sin.

The good news of the gospel, however, is that Christ paid the penalty for all sins so that God might be merciful to all sinners. On the cross Jesus satisfied God’s justice. And when a person trusts in His sacrifice, God opens the floodgates of His mercy. God did not gloss over sin and compromise justice. The good news is that in the shedding of Christ’s blood, He satisfied His justice, forgave sin, fulfilled righteousness, and made His mercy available.

There is never an excuse for sin, but there is always a remedy.[1]
