For at least the past six years now online apologetics and discernment ministries like Herescope, as well as here at Apprising Ministries, have warning about the spread of this spurious CSM of the cult of Foster-Willlardism.

You may also remember that none other than Living Spiritual Teacher and Emergent Church guru Brian McLaren[1] told you they were “key mentors” of the Emerging Church.[2]

So what do people think these mentors were teaching the leaders within the sinfully ecumenical neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church? A mentoring that would help shape these apostates who have now gone on to develop a form of quasi-universalism in their new version of Progressive Christian theology under their spiritual circus “big tent” Emergence Christianity.

This same rotten spiritual fruit of CSM can also be seen to have ushered in the ecumenical movement within the now mortally wounded mainline denominations; whose own non-gospel of universalism is now being argued for inside the walls of mainstream evangelicalism e.g. by former Emerging Church rock star icon Rob Bell in his Love Wins mythology.

We can also see this uber-inclusivism has led to increasing syncretism within the visible church and a weak-kneed Rodney King philosophy of can’t we all just get along? In addition to all of this, a developing charismania is arising where more and more well known evangelicals—such as SBC Lifeway-sponsored Bible teacher Beth Moore—regularly speak of direct encounters outside of Scripture allegedly with God.

Below you’ll see her teaching four questions that supposedly insure you’ll know when you have one of these alleged encounters of Plura Scriptura. The clip is from her appearance yesterday on the Life Today program of Protholic James Robison. We’re told this teaching on “Spiritual Discernment” is actually:

part four of the series, Beth lays out questions to ask when differentiating the voice of God from our own internal impulses. (Online source)

I’m not going to go through her teaching and instead focus your attention upon this idea that Beth Moore claims to know these four questions “to ask when differentiating the voice of God from our own internal impulses.” Now, as Robison introduces her to come teach us spiritual discernment, he tells us:

Beth is teaching on spiritual discernment. And if there is something I see quite obvious missing in the lives of many Christians and in many church settings it is the spirit of discernment, being able to discern the spirit, the spirits, and what’s going on and even exercise wise judgment.

I think Beth is excellent in the way she approaches all biblical truth and all concerns, and this is a major concern and it is a major importance. So welcome Beth and “Spiritual Discernment.” (Online source)

So, Robison feels it’s “quite obvious” that “the spirit of discernment” is “missing in the lives of many Christians.” Ok; but I wonder, does he see it missing from his own? If Beth Moore’s 4 question checklist is so Biblical, then how come James Robison And Rick Warren Are Working To Reverse The Protestant Reformation? That’s certainly not the Lord’s doing.

How about Moore herself? She tells us yesterday that her daughter Melissa is “very emotionally charged. Everything is big. Every feeling is huge.” Then she reveals:

I’m kind of like that. When I feel it, I feel it!… If it is a God thing, then I love it! I love it!
(Online source)

Ok; the question I now have is: Is the following vision “a God thing?” It comes from her classic Believing God (BG) Online Bible Study, which is still promoted to this day on the website of Lifeway—the publishing arm of the SBC. Beth Moore tells us of a literal vision she claims that God gave to her:

Previously in Did God Give Beth Moore This Vision? I walk you through what she said in own testimony. As I told you before, it’s beyond any doubt that: 1) Beth Moore is talking about the universal Church, i.e. the Body of Christ; 2) she’s also claiming extra-biblical revelation via a literal vision that she testifies God showed her, and 3) it supposedly enabled her to see the Church “as Jesus sees it.”

There’s simply no way around it. Keep all of this in mind now as you watch the next video clip, which is taken from a section after God Himself allegedly gave Beth Moore a literal vision that afforded her the ability in a “particular dimension” to see the Body of Christ “as Jesus sees it.” Now watch as Moore illustrates the vision concerning “something different” she sees “God doing” in the Church, i.e. “the body of Christ.”

You’ll see she does include the apostate Roman Catholic Church among her Christian denominations:

Well, it would seem that Beth Moore needs to rework her questions; that was not of God. She needs to repent.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JESUS

Let’s return to the Roman Catholic priest’s challenge. Certainly if justification by faith alone is so crucial a doctrine, we would expect to find it clearly taught by our Lord. Indeed, that is precisely what we discover.

Although Christ made no formal explication of the doctrine of justification (such as Paul did in his epistle to the Romans), justification by faith underlay and permeated all His gospel preaching. While Jesus never gave a discourse on the subject, it is easy to demonstrate from Jesus’ evangelistic ministry that He taught sola fide.

For example, it was Jesus Himself who stated, “he who hears My word, and believes . . . has passed out of death into life” (Jn. 5:24)–without undergoing any sacrament or ritual, and without any waiting period or purgatory. The thief on the cross is the classic example. On the most meager evidence of his faith, Jesus told him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise” (Lk. 23:43). No sacrament or work was required for him to procure salvation.

Furthermore, the many healings Jesus accomplished were physical evidence of His power to forgive sins (Matt. 9:5-6). When He healed, He frequently said, “Your faith has made you well” (Matt. 9:22; Mk. 5:34; 10:52; Lk. 8:48; 17:19; 18:42). All those healings were object lessons on the doctrine of justification by faith alone.

But the one occasion where Jesus actually declared someone “justified” provides the best insight into the doctrine as He taught it:

He also told this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer. The Pharisee stood and was praying thus to himself, ‘God, I thank Thee that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-gatherer. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get. ‘But the tax-gatherer, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted” (Luke 18:9-14, emphasis added).

That parable surely shocked Jesus’ listeners! They “trusted in themselves that they were righteous” (v. 9)–the very definition of self-righteousness. Their theological heroes were the Pharisees, who held to the most rigid legalistic standards. They fasted, made a great show of praying and giving alms, and even went further in applying the ceremonial laws than Moses had actually prescribed.” As to the righteousness which is in the Law,” they considered themselves “blameless” (cf. Phil. 3:5-6).

Yet Jesus had stunned multitudes by saying, “Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:20)–followed by, “You are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (v. 48). Clearly, He set a standard that was humanly impossible, for no one could surpass the rigorous living of the scribes and Pharisees. Now He further astounds His listeners with a parable that seems to place a detestable tax-gatherer in a better position spiritually than a praying Pharisee.

Jesus’ point is clear. He was teaching that justification is by faith alone. All the theology of justification is there. But without delving into abstract theology, Jesus clearly painted the picture for us with a parable.

a judicial act of God

This tax-gatherer’s justification was an instantaneous reality. There was no process, no time lapse, no fear of purgatory. He “went down to his house justified” (v. 14)–not because of anything he had done, but because of what had been done on his behalf.

Notice that the tax-collector understood his own helplessness. He owed an impossible debt he knew he could not pay. All he could do was repent and plead for mercy. Contrast his prayer with that of the arrogant Pharisee. He did not recite what he had done. He knew that even his best works were sin. He did not offer to do anything for God. He simply pleaded for divine mercy. He was looking for God to do for him what he could not do for himself. That is the very nature of the penitence Jesus called for.

by faith alone

Furthermore, this man went away justified without performing any works of penance, without doing any sacrament or ritual, without any meritorious works whatsoever. His justification was complete without any of those things, because it was solely on the basis of faith. Everything necessary to atone for his sin and provide forgiveness had already been done on his behalf. He was justified by faith on the spot.

Again, he makes a stark contrast with the smug Pharisee, who was so certain that all his fasting and tithing and other works made him acceptable to God. But while the working Pharisee remained unjustified, the believing tax-gatherer received full justification by faith alone.

an imputed righteousness

Remember Jesus’ statement from the Sermon on the Mount, “Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:20)? Yet now He states that this tax-gatherer–the most wicked of men–was justified! How did such a sinner obtain a righteousness that exceeded that of the Pharisee? If the standard is divine perfection (v. 48), how could a traitorous tax-collector ever become just in God’s eyes?

The only possible answer is that he received a righteousness that was not his own (cf. Phil. 3:9). Righteousness was imputed to him by faith (Rom. 4:9-11).

Whose righteousness was reckoned to him?It could only be the perfect righteousness of a flawless Substitute, who in turn must bear the tax-gatherer’s sins and suffer the penalty of God’s wrath in his place. And the gospel tells us that is precisely what Jesus did.

The tax-gatherer was justified. God declared him righteous, imputing to him the full and perfect righteousness of Christ, forgiving him of all unrighteousness, and delivering him from all condemnation. Forever thereafter he stood before God on the ground of a perfect righteousness that had been reckoned to his account.

That is what justification means. It is the only true gospel. All other points of theology emanate from it. As Packer wrote, “The doctrine of justification by faith is like Atlas: it bears a world on its shoulders, the entire evangelical knowledge of saving grace. “The difference between Rome and the Reformers is not theological hair-splitting .A right understanding of justification by faith is the very foundation of the gospel. You cannot go wrong on this point without corrupting every other doctrine as well. And that is why every “different gospel” is under the eternal curse of God.

You cannot say that Luther invented the idea of justification by faith alone.Long before Luther it was taught by Augustine and Paul and Jesus and Moses. Even back in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve realized soon after their sin that the fig leaves with which they tried to cover their shame were woefully inadequate. The gospel is given in Genesis 3:21 when Moses tells us that God clothed them. They needed something they couldn’t provide for themselves; and God giving man what man needs to stand in His favorable presence is the essence of the gospel. Luther merely restated what true Christians have understood for centuries, that justification is by faith alone.

What I’ve done in this particular class that makes this group so special, and I’m loving this about you who are online, we are a very interdenominational group. And so I’ve literally gotten to position people from these denominations and from these backgrounds into these groups. So that just thrills me.

So this part we’re not playing. However I’ve just made up the name from familiar names of churches I’ve seen through the years. Right over here to my right you see First United Methodist Church of Lessthanland. Right behind them you would find just down the street, just across the street really, you’ve got Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Every single one of my sisters in this area attends a Lutheran church which thrills me. These all attend a Methodist church. I can’t tell you how I love that kind of diversity. What I’ve asked these ladies to do right here, now this makes it a little bit different, because they do go to different churches. But what I’ve asked them to represent to us tonight to us is an African-American church that we’re going to call Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Is that good? Did I do good? Yes! Hallelujah, Hallelujah! Right back here I want you to meet St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Lessthanland. These ladies come, every single one of them, although they don’t go to one Catholic church, every single one of them attend a Catholic church probably right here in Houston. And I am so thrilled that they are here.

What I’ve asked my sisters to do here, actually they represent many different churches but they represent one church in our midst tonight. These are our sisters that attend different Charismatic churches in our city but tonight they attend Abundant Life Church. Is that good?

We could live our whole believing lives through and never make it to our promised land. And you know what, we get to Heaven and go You were not faithful to me, You didn’t do what You said You were going to do. Child, I was holding every single bit of that for you but I really insist you cooperate with Me.

What it says over and over in this particular chapter, the number one hindrance to our calling becoming a reality is unbelief. Boy, this is the heart of our study, this is the heart of our study. Listen carefully, what God began to say to me about five years ago and I’m telling you it sent me on such a trip with Him that my head is still whirling over it.

He began to say to me I’m going to tell something right now Beth, and boy, you write this one down and you say it as often as I give you utterance to say it; My Bride is paralysed by unbelief, My Bride is paralysed by unbelief. And He said starting with you. Amen. Because we can do a lot of finger pointing around here about why revival’s not happening here, and let me tell you something, revival will always happen with faith.

By faith we’ll drop on our knees, humble ourselves and cry out to God. But I’m telling you, I am convinced with everything in my heart that one reason why we see so little is because we believe for so little.

Look carefully at what that verse is saying. He said, and you can say to the mountain. For some reason, ordained by God alone, He tells us that when we want something to move we are to tell it to. That we are to open our mouths and say to the mountain, move it, you are in my way!

Now I can tell you what’s going on right now, some people are thinking, they’re already shutting off right here, because they’re thinking you know well that is not for today. Then why in the world did He leave us this line? Why in the world did He leave us this word? We are to confess with our mouths. He said open your mouths and say. When He spoke the worlds into existence, He didn’t just think them, He spoke them! And He set a precedent.

And He’s saying to us, My words are omnipotent but your words are potent. You stir up the faith within you, you look at that mountain and you say move it! But I got to tell you something, God has been teaching me how to move some mountains with my voice.

Unfortunately, as apostasy spreads like an Oklahoma wild-fire, with timid leaders scared of their own spiritual shadows, we now find ourselves in a nauseating New Downgrade No-Controversy.

So, unless you’ve been living in a cave you know that Gospel Coalition Council member James MacDonald has invited notorious blab it, grab it Word Faith modalist T.D. Jakes into his Elephant Room 2.

I also recently showed you in Dung Droppings From The Elephant Room: Greg Laurie that ER’s goal is to form a new unified tribe. Now, you might say: Ok Ken, um, what has any of this to do with Beth Moore? Well kemosabe, I’m glad you asked. The answer is found in Beth Moore To Speak For Hillsong Church.

Unfortunately, too many people are listening to themselves and not God so they actually think this “unity” being forged right now by the spiritually spineless and scared of its own shadow evanjellyfish is actually God’s will. Those with eyes to see and ears that hear know that this spiritual tower of Babel isn’t God’s will at all.

You may recall that in Beth Moore Recommends “Jesus Calling” Book Claiming Direct Divine Revelation, we see the largely pretending to be Protestant evangelical community continues its pilgrimage back to the legalistic spiritual bondage of apostate Roman Catholicism and its evil author the Church of Rome.

In addition, recently I pointed out in James Robison And Rick Warren Working To Reverse The Protestant Reformation that both of those men associated with the Southern Baptist Convention—supposedly the largest *cough* Protestant denomination in the United States—hold the Roman Catholic Church is a Christian entity.

But how does this involve Beth Moore you may wonder? Well, she appears on her friend James Robison’s TV program every Wednesday. Ah, but you might say: That’s guilt-by-association; we don’t know that Beth Moore agrees with Robison. I concur; to a point. I’ve not seen her say anything regarding Robison’s heretical view.

That noted, followers of Beth Moore who’ve written me and commented on articles concerning her mystic/contemplative/charismatic bent are largely missing the point in their attempt to defend her. You need to know I’m the source from which the recent videos have come. Now I’ll tell you a few things to clarify why.

First of all, I don’t hate Beth Moore; she seems to me to be a very genuine and nice person, and I don’t question her Christian commitment. Secondly, I am also SBC, for now, and happen to be a former Roman Catholic whom God chose to deliver from the religious bondage of the Church of Rome into the glorious liberty of the sons of God.

So, when I see the current evangelical fad of practicing Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) slithering through the SBC now, e.g. Southern Baptist Convention Using More Counter Reformation Contemplative Spirituality, it catches my attention. CSM is nothing more than a reimagined Roman Catholic mysticism that flowered in Rome’s monastic traditions.

As I’ve began warning, in pieces like Southern Baptist Kay Warren Promoting Devout Roman Catholic Jean Vanier and The Push For A Roman Catholic Denomination And The SBC’S Russell Moore, there appears to be a move by some big names within evangelicalism to try and get people to believe the RCC is really but another Christian denomination.

Frankly, that is the view of many in evangelicalism at large; however, I’m mostly concentrating on SBC names at this time. So, we now call Beth Moore to the witness stand. Please know that Glenn Chatfield did cover some of this very well years ago. However, I wasn’t able to get hold of the materials myself until recently so I could speak personally to the issues.

With this in mind then, the clips of Beth Moore that follow come from my copy of her 2002 series Believing God (BG), which as you can see below is still promoted by Lifeway—the publishing arm of the SBC:

(Online source)

Being that this LifeWay-sponsored BG Online Bible Study is from 10 years ago, we are safe to assume that the SBC feels that what you’re about to hear from Beth Moore is in line with this evangelical Protestant denomination. This even though the SBC supposedly frowns upon charismatic practices—such as receiving direct personal revelations from God.

However, apparently in the case of Beth Moore the Slowly Becoming Catholic has long ago given her a pass. In this video clip below it is an incontrovertible fact that Moore is describing a literal vision she claims that God gave her:

Let me now walk you through what she just said:

Transcription: “… to beg to differ with people that are ten times smarter than I am. But I want to say to you I see something different than that. I see God doing something huge in the body of Christ. I do not know why I have had the privilege to get to travel around, see one church after another…one group of believers after another, interdenominationally, all over this country, but I have gotten to see something that I think is huge.

And I’ll also suggest to you I am not the only one. And tonight I’m going to do my absolute best to illustrate to you something that God showed me out on that back porch. He put a picture…I’ve explained to you before I am a very visual person…so He speaks to me very often putting a picture in my head.

And it was as if I was raised up looking down on a community, as I saw the Church in that particular dimension- certainly not all dimensions, not even in many, but in what we will discuss tonight, the church, as Jesus sees it, in a particular dimension.”
(Online source, emphasis mine)

That’s Moore’s testimony; those are her own words. If one is unbiased, the following should now be crystal clear: 1) Beth Moore is talking about the universal Church, i.e. the Body of Christ; 2) she’s also claiming extra-biblical revelation via a literal vision that she testifies God showed her, and 3) it supposedly enabled her to see the Church “as Jesus sees it.” There’s simply no way around this, period.

It’s very important that you keep all of this in mind now as you watch the next video clip, which is taken from a section after God Himself allegedly gave Beth Moore a literal vision that afforded her the ability in a “particular dimension” to see the Body of Christ “as Jesus sees it.” Now watch as Moore illustrates the vision concerning “something different” she sees “God doing” in the Church, i.e. “the body of Christ.”

You’ll see she does include the apostate Roman Catholic Church among her Christian denominations:

Well, it would seem that Beth Moore has also been elevated to the status of her fellow Southern Baptist, PDL Pope Rick Warren, in being able to decree and declare that the Protestant Reformation is officially over. Now for the key questions. First of all, do you seriously think that God actually gave this vision to Beth Moore?

Secondly, why is she still being promoted within the Southern Baptist Convention? Where are the leaders within the SBC calling Beth Moore out for this blatant false teaching, which she attributes to God? And lastly, just exactly how far off track does Beth Moore have to get before the broader evangelical community stops holding her up as a good role model?

Unfortunately, at a time when the church visible could desperately use one, I’m afraid there doesn’t appear to be a Charles Spurgeon arising.

In pieces like Word Faith Heretics Like Creflo Dollar Draw Nearer To Evangelical Acceptance and Steven Furtick Bringin’ On Word Faith And The Pastrixes you get an idea of how far down the grade within apostatizing evangelicalism.

Actually, it’s so bad that, as I pointed out in Beth Moore And John Piper Lead Lectio Divina-Lite At Passion 2012, Word Faith heretics like Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes are essentially considered mainstream now. And if you think I’m kidding about Creflo Dollar not being too far off the mainstream evangelical horizon, better think again.

For there he is below on the January 3, 2012 edition of Life Today with James Robison—the very same program Beth Moore appears on every Wednesday:

(Online source)

Amazingly, Robison says of this disciple of Word Faith wingnut Kenneth Copeland, and one of the most notorious of the prosperity preachers:

I want you to listen to Creflo Dollar. Now he really understands abundant living. Let him help you in this series, but I want you to hear Creflo in some of the greatest insight about giving, not about getting. (Online source)

Now you have the correct view of the battlefield as I show you the beginning of not a bromance, but a femance. First a tweet from Bobbie Houston, senior pastrix of the nefarious Hillsong Church with her husband Brian:

(Online source)

To which Beth Moore would respond:

(Online source)

I think we now have even more reason to be concerned about the discernment of Southern Baptist Bible teacher Beth Moore if she actually thinks that Bobbie Houston, a rebel against the Word of God, is a “faithful servant of Christ.” Is she really “humbled” to be speaking at Hillsong Church (HC).

The fact is, HC regularly features the major prosperity preachers of the heretical Word Faith movement at their annual heresy-fests such as Joyce Meyer, Joel and Victoria Osteen, and his new pal T.D. Jakes. Yet Moore’s set, along with her friend Priscilla Shirer, as Key Speakers for HC’s upcoming Colour Conference:

(Online source)

Who knows, maybe Beth Moore will even tell Hillsong Church the now classic story of one of her direct dialogues with God. In fact, she retold it just yesterday on James Robison’s aforementioned Life Today:

He looked like he was not one iota less than about 129 and I’m not kidding. This was the oldest looking person I had ever seen…the Lord begins to compel my heart. Overwhelms me! Overwhelms me! Well, I have learned, I’ve walked with him a long time. I knew by now that is scary. God is up to something when he is overwhelming your heart like that.

I just thought, “Oh please, God, no! Oh, please! Please, God, no!” because I’m already knowing he wants me to witness to this man. So I say to myself in my spirit — and I’m not talking out loud, but in my spirit I’m talking to God silently. I’m sure my mouth is going – because I say to him, “Do not make me witness to that man!

Now, I’m going to tell you, as clear as I’m talking to you now, the Lord spoke to my heart. There’s been very few times I’ve ever heard God be this articulate with me. And I’m telling you, word for word, these words came into my heart: “I’m not asking you to witness to him; I’m asking you to brush his hair.” “Lord, that man needs witnessing to!” [Laughter] “What good is combed hair if a man is lost? And I can tell, Lord, that man – I am your witness, I am your witness! I am your witness! I am your girl! Me! Me!” I’ve got the Roman road! Amen?

Still, in my heart, I mean we’re just having a fight. “I didn’t tell you to witness to him. I told you to brush his hair!” I thought, “I don’t have a hair brush!” I fix my hair, and then it’s done for the day, until I unfix it. And the brush is in the luggage. Do you understand what I’m saying to you?

So I say, “I don’t even have a hair brush!” And the Lord’s still compelling me. So I get up, walk over, and I’m thinking to myself, “I don’t even have a hair brush.” I’m supposed to be thoroughly equipped under all good works. I do not have my hair brush! [Laughter]

I walk over; I get right in front of the man. His head is hanging down like this. I lean down like this and I said, “Sir, may I have the honor of brushing your hair?”…

[Then the] hostess came and put him on the plane. She came back out and she was crying, I mean hard. She said, “What made you do that?” I said, “Jesus! He’s the bossiest thing!” (Online source)
