TONY JONES SAYS:
By Apprising Administrator on Jul 22, 2006 in Emergent Church
In a recent issue of Relevant magazine we read:
Tony Jones is the National Coordinator of Emergent. He talked with RELEVANT about the movement, its leaders and dispelled rumors about what Emergent is really all about. A full profile of the emerging church and Emergent was featured in the July/August issue.
In this interview Tony Jones, who “grew up as a mainline Congregationalist,”
is among those in Emergent who embrace a more liberal view of theology and tells us that Emergent has: “Republicans, Democrats, Greens, Socialistics, Communitarians, Libertarians. We have everything you could imagine. We have Texas Baptists who don’t let women preach, and we have lesbian mainline pastors in New England… We haven’t yet found that there’s anything that justifies us breaking fellowship with somebody else who loves and is trying to follow Jesus.”
always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. (2 Timothy 3:7)
Well now Tony from what you just said it would seem obvious that in Emergent “anything goes.” And by your own admission, and as “National Coordinator” you ought to know, Emergent already includes practicing sinners in placed in leadership positions who are in open defiance of God’s Word in the Bible. So what’s next for Emergent, embracing as “brothers” the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witness, and every other cult under the sun which also claims to follow Jesus as well?
Because after all Tony, you also say “principles can be transcendent while at the same time culturally routed,” so if their given culture defines them to be Christians then you are now going to have to accept each them as such. But then again, this has been the Emergent goal all along.
