STEVEN FURTICK: DISCERNMENT GUILT TRIP? NO BEREANS ALLOWED

Below is Steven Furtick Lead Vocalist Pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina” whom I mentioned before in Steven Furtick: It’s All About the Numbers. In this clip from his recent sermon series called Confessions Of A Pastor, modeled after a Jerry Springer-type tabloid TV talk show, Furtick begins his rant by praising himself for his “infuriating stuff.”

Infuriating? Yep, I for one agree; from what I’ve seen as I’ve looked into Furtick’s man-centered ministry he’s ticking off the Lord with his “stuff” alright. Furtick then tells us his plan actually is to make people angry as he says:

My goal is to tick 12, 14 people off every service at both campuses every single week. If that’s what you want at Elevation Church you’re sure to get it. I’m too young, I’m rough around the edges, I’m honest, and I’m hyped up on Monster Energy drinks. I am sure to offend you. If that’s what you want I’ve got plenty of it coming.

And then at :39 Furtick really ramps it up and just watch how he literally seeths as he sneers at those who would dare resist his discernment guilt trip and attempt to be good Bereans by testing his human potential messages and social-centered gospel by Scripture. Oddly enough Furtick shifts gears at 1:22 and starts talking about the importance of trying to heal people.

Really? After their “pastor” has just told them his goal is to “tick people off”? Well now, I guess my critics can stop accusing me of “running people off” in my own local church because it is never my goal to offend or tick off anyone. Furtick then talks about how we need to take opportunity to “bless people, heal people, minister to people” etc. and “even if they don’t know they need help.” Ok Pastor Steve then let me help you.

Today I exhort you to drop this hate of proper Biblical doctrine, to turn your back on this whole man-centered human potential garbage you’re being fed through your friends like Perry Noble and Gary Lamb and return to the Jesus of the Bible. Remember when He encountered the Rich Young ruler? He didn’t say, “Dude, I’m digging that you want to be saved. Awesome, I’m so stoked. It’s all about the numbers.”

“Now all you have to do is just say the prayer and then follow me. I’ve come so you can enjoy all the good things in life like your riches. I’m here to help you achieve your goals and your purpose in life. Yeah man; you know, like all those plans you always had but could never do on your own. Well, after the prayer I’m yours to call on to give you all of that and then you’ll get to go to Heaven when you die.”

No, Christ challenged this man right where he lived–in his pride–and told him to lay it all down and then to follow Him. No promises; no clearly laid out path, just an invitation follow Him wherever Christ would lead him. Pastor Steve this man-centered semi-pelagian new evangelicalism is quite obviously not the genuine message of Jesus Christ Who said:

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw–a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ ”

“Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:34-39)
