*UPDATE* BAPTIST STATE CONVENTION OF NORTH CAROLINA (SBC) AND DOUG PAGITT: NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON’T
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Sep 28, 2007 in AM Missives, Current Issues, Emergent Church, Southern Baptist Convention
There are those of us who have been pointing out that the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (SBC) had invited Doug Pagitt, a leader in the neo-liberal cult of the Emergent Church, to be one of two featured speakers for their Wired2Grow (W2G) conference October 16, 2007.
In the meantime Pagitt created a bit of a firestorm by accusing Dr. John MacArthur of preaching a “perverted” Gospel which Phil Johnson of Pyromaniacs brought to light in his post Different Gospels.
And now Pagitt seems to have vanished from the Wired2Grow website. Here’s what the W2G originally said:
This year’s speakers are Rick McKinley, founding pastor of Imago Dei Community Church in Portland, Oregon and Doug Pagitt, pastor of Solomon’s Porch in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
(Online source, emphasis mine)
And now here is how the same page reads as of this writing (9/26/07):
This year’s speaker is Rick McKinley, founding pastor of Imago Dei Community Church in Portland, Oregon. (Online source)
The original speakers page also featured pictures and bios of both Rich McKinley and Doug Pagitt, which you can see via the Cached Page. And although the button currently reads “speakers,” as of this writing Pagitt has now disappeared from this page.
Apprising Ministries is currently trying to ascertain if Doug Pagitt has indeed been dropped from this upcoming SBC conference. The reason being that when you go to the website Innovative Church Community–Wired2Grow we’re still told:
This year’s speakers are Rick McKinley, founding pastor of Imago Dei Community Church in Portland, Oregon and Doug Pagitt, pastor of Solomon’s Porch in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
*Update* The above website has now been amended to read:
This year’s speaker is Rick McKinley, founding pastor of Imago Dei Community Church in Portland, Oregon. (emphasis mine)
Unfortunately at this writing BSCNC has not offically confirmed this to AM. And as of now there is still no mention of Pagitt being removed from Wired2Grow at The Doug Pagitt Blog or at his Doug Pagitt.com website.
