ABOUT TURMOIL AT CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY

Ingrid Schlueter informs us:
The ongoing problems at Cedarville University have been covered by the Chronicle of Higher Education. The firing of two tenured Bible professors who had just been given contracts a few months earlier has now resulted in an investigation by the American Association of University Professors…
You can read more over at Slice of Laodicea. However, Schlueter does provide the following quote from the Chronicle piece:
A theological impasse dividing Cedarville’s campus has also played a role in the controversy. Known as the “truth and certainty debate,” the dispute involves a somewhat rarefied but hotly contested question of faith: Can Christians enjoy certainty of Biblical truth, or do they merely have the assurance of their faith that the Bible is factual?

Now with the above foolishness in mind, Apprising Ministries brings you a couple of verses from the uber trendy and culturally relevant Postmodern Christian Bible some professors at CU wish they had. Here’s John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life; and while you’ll never be certain, I assure you this is factual.”
How about John 16:13a – “But when He the Spirit of assured factual Truth comes, even though you can’t be certain, He will guide you into a pretty fair assurance of Truth.” Because after all, I can assure you that there are professors at CU who teach that we can’t know truth with certainty. And of this, but of course, they are…well…certain.
Welcome to a fulfillment of Colossians 2:8 – See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ (NASB).
