THE EMERGING CHURCH: CONVERSATIONS, CONVERGENCE AND ACTION

How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? (Jeremiah 23:26)
Forward Back Into The Ancient-Future Of A Reimagined Christianity Already Condemned
Ok, so here’s the deal via a little reductio ad absurdum, which may actually be synonymous with postevangelcalism; but that’s for another day. Now, once upon a time there were some people who through their practice of Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) became deluded in their thinking ala 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12. They believe they have come up with a way to make Christianity appeal to the world. That’s right; these are the people who finally have it right. Ok; Jesus, His Apostles, as well as their disciples aka Christians, turned the world upside down by the foolishness of preaching to their also pluralistic culture of “spiritual seekers” that there is no salvation outside of a crucified and then resurrected Jewish carpenter.
The Master, Who claimed He was the Creator God Himself in human flesh, told His disciples that if the world persecuted Him then it would—not might—would also persecute them. But these folks through their CSM came up with some stories that they have a better idea because they have discovered the true spiritual teachings—long ago lost by Protestants—nah, it’s not cultic, of some “Christians” who had decided to go live in the desert as hermits and hermettes. And I’m sure there was whole a lot of social reform among the scorpions. Ah, no matter that Jesus said, “As the Father sent Me, so I send you” (see—John 20:21). How much better not to have to be in the world while not being of it as Christ Himself had been; so they decided to spend their time in “wordless prayer” because “the language of God is silence.”
Um,…right. I guess that’s why our Creator made us as propositional beings capable of exchanging and understanding real concepts by using actual words that have actual meanings. Then God even inspired some of these men to write Words down, which were actually His, in Scripture in order to reveal Himself to creatures so fallen in their rebellion against Him that they were now unable to know Him otherwise. Ah, but I digress. So anyway it seems, eventually these desert-dwellers—with WAY too much time on their hands—begin having interspiritual dialogues with practitioners of other religions e.g. Buddhism, Sufi Islam and Hinduism to see how God was “working” in their religions. Oddly enough, they all found they practiced this “wordless” prayer aka meditation.
O I know, I know, this all seems so strange to us today cuz we just don’t see that kind of thing anymore; but work with me here, k. Fast forward hundreds of years through the antibiblical monastic traditions of Roman Catholicism and their theology (means “study of God”) becomes so corrupted that God Himself raises up men who have the the silly notion that what the Lord has spoken in Scripture would be more trustworthy than our fickle feelings. But you see, what is so often forgotten in today’s sappy sentimentality passing for Christian spirituality is that these Reformers were literally cursed as unbelievers, and many killed, by the Roman Catholic Church. Ya see, the idea of reforming apostate organizations from within has already been tried.
This gives you a bit of important background in very blunt language, which may just help somebody see through the lunacy in the Lord’s Name that I’m going to draw now to your attention below. These people to follow are trying to take the Church right back into the ancient-future faith of the Dark Ages and are spiritual decendents of the heretical hermits and hermettes. Try reading any book, as I am, by any one of these contemplative spiritual “knuckleheads” without finding revisionist history, oops, loving reference to those deluded deceivers they call “the Desert Fathers and Mothers.” Heaven to earth; these fools (look it up) were the very precursers of the ascetic monastic religious bondage that would later cause the Protestant Reformation in the first place—hello!
More Corrupt Conferences Trying To Recast God Into The Image Of Mortal Man
Well, now we have a whole new set of quasi-Gnostics with their own “revelations” received in their own alleged “union with God” during their own reimagined version of so-called “Christian” mysticism. Ok, does this now mean that we have some new Scripture? For example, in his books Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Guru Richard Foster often says God told him thus and so while he is contemplating his navel in mystic meditation. Well, shouldn’t we now add this to the canon of Scripture? I mean, doesn’t God speak authoritatively? And where exactly does that fit in with Protestant evangelicals who profess to believe Sola Scriptura?
Got a tip for the Rip Van Winkles in evangelical leadership: You better start making some serious decisions because conferences like this one are stealing your youth away right back into those Dark Ages of deception. See for yourself; from the website of the Center for Action and Contemplation, “Committed to offering a constructive message of the Gospel that crosses boundaries of religion” (if only Jesus had thought of that) headed by “Christian Roshi” Richard Rohr we find the details to the upcoming conference “The Emerging Church: Conversations, Convergence and Action” March 20-29, 2009:
Come to the first large gathering of Roman Catholic, Mainline Protestant, Evangelical, and other Christians seeking to explore this emergence and convergence together. You’ll be inspired by provocative speakers and spiritual leaders and engage in in-depth conversation about our shared quests for:
- A fresh understanding of Jesus
- Spirituality that links contemplation and action
- Social justice and holistic mission
- Authentic community
Join Fr. Richard Rohr, Brian McLaren, Phyllis Tickle, Shane Claiborne, Alexie Torres-Fleming, and others for 3 days of spiritual enrichment, challenge, and shared exploration as we envision what the Christian community can be and do in this generation and in generations to come. (Online source)
Note that “fresh understanding of Jesus”. Translation: A reimagined form of the old inclusive non-gospel of modern theology—liberalism. Men and women, from these new deluded dreamers in love with the self, mankind (see—2 Timothy 3:2) you are actually getting today a postmodern theolgy; a postlliberalism. A new form of an old heresy which is not all that much different than that of their fellow “Red Letter Christian” Tony Campolo or even “Progressive Christian” Marcus Borg. You can’t say we haven’t tried to warn you – In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up (2 Peter 2:3).
And know this: Greed has to do with a whole lot more than merely money; besides, it’s not exactly like these “counter-culture” folks like Emergent Swami Brian McLaren and psuedo Rob Bell clone Shane Caliborne are writing their books for free and turning down the money from their book publishers. Hey, does anybody else remember what happened to those “anti-establishment” rock stars of the 60s as the money started rolling in?
