SELECTIVE EDITING OF TEXTS FROM "THE SACRED"
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Apr 3, 2009 in Marcus Borg
Well now, it sure looks as if we’ve discovered that the Progressive Christians of the Jesus Seminar and the new reformation of Emergence Christianity are not the only ones who are selectively and subjectively dealing the text of Scripture. Nope, it would seem that even Islam has their own emerging apostates. Of course genuine Christians know that the Quran did not originate with the one true and living God; however, for the Muslim it is considered sacred scripture.
Um, that is; ah, the stuff that “Muslims Against Sharia” of the Islamic Reform Movement (IRM) think ol’ Allah may have said:
With the help of our readers we went through the Koran and removed every verse that we believe did not come from Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. However, it is possible that we missed something, and we could use your help. If you find verses in the reformed version of the Koran that promote violence, divisiveness, religious or gender superiority, bigotry, or discrimination, please let us know the number of the verse and the reason why it should be removed. (Online soutce)
Hey, ya gotta give them a little credit; at least they are completely upfront about wanting to make their scriptures say just exactly what they want them to say. Hmm, maybe Brian McLaren will finally come out and admit this is what he’s slowly been trying to do with the Bible along with the likes of Living Spiritual Teacher and “non-literalist, non-exclusive” *cough* Christian Marcus Borg. I mean, just think for a minute; it really would save a whole lot of reimagining the reinterpretions of Scripture by liberal theologians who are laboring so hard to turn the faith into fables (see— 2 Timothy 4:4).
O, and see if the following, which comes emerging from the IRM website, doesn’t ring a Rob Bell:
To start the healing process, we must acknowledge evils done by Muslims in the name of Islam and accept responsibility for those evils [by the Islamic radicals]. We must remove evil passages from Islamic religious texts, so that future generations of Muslims will not be confused by conflicting messages.
Our religious message should be loud and clear: Islam is peace; Islam is love; Islam is light. War, murder, violence, divisiveness & discrimination are not Islamic values.
Brothers and Sisters!
Do not make the next generation of Muslims clean up your mess!
Fight Islamic Fascism now, so your children won’t have to! (ibid.)
