Now that “blogger, author and web designer” Tim Challies made the decision to wade into the water of “watchdog” blogs, in this piece at Slice of Laodicea Ingrid Schlueter, who founded CRN, brings out a couple of very important issues when she says:

Tim Challies today has decided to criticize those blogs that he believes use bad news as “entertainment.” Challies does not bother to specifically address what blogs/bloggers he is talking about, and as a result, anyone who reads a news and views blog can be made to feel that they may be in sin for doing so. 

Those who name names in their critiques are often criticized for calling out individuals. I would say that the greater risk is to make general critical statements that by their very vagueness impugn many innocent parties… I don’t question his motives as a fellow brother-in-Christ, but I would caution him that his post will serve as a useful tool by men like Richard Abanes who has made a career of attempting to smear and marginalize those in ministries that warn about false teaching.

If Slice, A Little Leaven, Apprising Ministries, Lighthouse Trails, etc. can be categorized as “cult-like” and dangerous to the church, as Abanes has repeatedly asserted, or “entertainment” as Challies asserts, then the biblical truth we publish is undermined. If Tim Challies is not referring to Slice, Apprising Ministries, Lighthouse Trails, A Little Leaven or Christian Research Network than he owes it to his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to clarify… (Online source)
