"ABORTION IS A BLESSING": US EPISCOPALIAN LESBIAN MINISTER APPOINTED TO HEAD PRESTIGIOUS SEMINARY
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Apr 4, 2009 in Current Issues, Homosexuality/"Christian"
A while back in his sermon A Nation Abandoned by God Dr. John MacArthur spoke prophetically when he rightly stated, “America is here going through the cycle of Romans 1.” And he then asks the all-important question:
What do you have to pray for? You have to pray for the Word of the living God to be proclaimed across this nation. And if it’s not being proclaimed in churches, it’s not going to be proclaimed anywhere else. This is not a time for weak men in weak ministries preaching weak messages. This is a time to call on God to raise up a generation of passionate faithful gracious loving preachers of the Word so that a nation can listen to God. That’s the answer. (Online source)
But tragically what we have in this sad, and pathetic, story from LifeSiteNews.com is the polar opposite. Weak-willed women preaching even weaker messages to even more deceived dupes:
Katherine Hancock Ragsdale, an openly lesbian minister in the American Episcopal Church, has caused a stir on the internet with a sermon, posted to her weblog, in which she called abortion a “blessing” and called for the suppression of rights of conscience for health care workers. In her sermon, titled, “Our Work is Not Done,” she wrote that there should be no restrictions whatever on abortion: “If we were to find that, while we were here, Congress had acted to insure that abortion would always be legal, that would be a very good thing; but our work would not be done.” …
Rev. Ragsdale, a director of a left-leaning think tank, Political Research Associates, was appointed on March 30th as the next president of Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) in Cambridge, MA. She was the unanimous choice of the School’s Board of Trustees and will begin her duties on July 1, 2009… The sermon was removed from her blog earlier today after 59 commenters urged her to repent of her support for abortion… She described various situations in which “abortion is a blessing”, including in cases of foetal “anomalies,” rape or incest, material poverty and “lack of social support.” … When a woman can receive an abortion at any stage, and for any reason or no reason, Rev. Ragsdale wrote, “our work” in the abortion lobby “will be done.” (Online source)
That this pompous fool, who dares claim to pastor a Christian church while in willful and unrepentant sin, would be so deluded as to think the sovereign Creator God will approve a mother saying to her unborn child, “I’m sorry; but we’re too poor to let you live,” is only more proof of the Lord giving over to a depraved mind those who’d support this egregious apostate (at best) and her heresy. Those who wish to see for themselves what Ragsdale said in her sermon can do so here.
I wonder; concerning this systematic execution of the unborn, where are the outraged voices of Emergence Christianity like Rob Bell and Shane Claiborne, who blather obliquely yet incessantly against the evil empire for the “rights” of the oppressed? Well, I’m certainly not going to hold my breath for those kind of postliberal people-pleasers to make any kind of substantive stand. And what should we who are regenerated members of the Church of the Firstborn be doing concerning situations like this?
Here I stand with my brother John MacArthur; I also urge us to begin crying out to the Lord in faith-filled and fervent prayer:
Think God might react? He said…I love this, verse 14 [of Psalm 81]… “I would quickly..” you like that word? Isn’t that a good word? I don’t get the picture God’s dragging His heels here. “I would quickly subdue their enemies, I would turn My hand against their adversaries and it would be so great that even the people who hate Me would pretend to obey Me.” And then I love this, I love verse 16, “And I would feed you with the finest of the wheat and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” That’s metaphoric, I would just drown you in blessing.
God only wants one thing out of a nation. Listen and believe this book. I really get grieved even when I hear evangelical people in the media and the public eye kind of equivocating about the clarity of the gospel. It’s all we’ve got. Or about the clarity of what Scripture says. Your prayer and mine has to be that God would raise up faithful preachers and people who would proclaim His Word across this land. Pray for this generation of young men that God will call and shape and send, pray for pastors everywhere. Pray for lay people, for Christians to be bold.
There’s only one solution and that’s the truth…the truth by which God saves, by which God sanctifies, and if this nation will respond and listen to His truth, God will open the flood gates. We might be the greatest recovery story in history. But there’s no other way than that people listen to Me and walk in My ways. It’s not going to happen if there’s a famine of the hearing of the Word of God. Pray that the Word, as Paul said, would have free course and that it would run with all its power across this land. With all its beauty and magnificence, all its power and grace, that people would hear and believe and be saved and be obedient, all that to the glory of God. I don’t know what God’s plan is, I just see here what His heart is. “O, that My people would listen to Me,” that’s the heart of God. (Online source)
