DOWN WITH SOLA SCRIPTURA!

 

One News Now with another example of the way the powerful homosexual lobby long active within liberal theology is further dividing the visible church: 

The Church of Scotland has approved the appointment of an openly homosexual minister – the latest case of tensions over sexuality to prompt division in the Anglican Communion. The church’s ruling body voted Saturday by 326 to 267 to support the appointment of the Rev. Scott Rennie, 37, who was previously married to a woman and is now in a relationship with a man… (Online source)

It should be noted that The Church of Scotland (CoS) is not part of the Anglican aka Episcopal Church, which has already abandoned Sola Scriptura; but rather, it decends from the work of the Church Reformer John Knox. Noted Church historian Kenneth Latourette is right when he tells us in his A History of Christianity that “the Church of Scotland [began as] a thorough-going Presbyterian organization” (Vol. II, 772). 

This is confirmed at the CoS website:

The Reformation in Scotland came to its head in the 1560s, and was modelled on John Calvin’s Geneva. His pupil John Knox is famous for head-to-head debates with Mary, Queen of Scots, the Catholic Queen who returned from France and tried to remain loyal to the Roman system.

By the end of the 16th century, the Protestant Church of Scotland had developed into a Presbyterian Church, with a system of courts (today General Assembly, presbytery and kirk session), and a strong tradition of preaching and Scriptural emphasis. (Online source)

Well, by ordaining someone who’s in unrepentant, and willful sin, it would seem that CoS has now gotten rid of the inconvenience of that “Scriptural emphasis.” How tragic when one thinks of the cry of John Knox, “Give me Scotland of I die.” But you’d best get ready because this foolish denial of the Bible is no longer confined within the long dead mainline denominations.

Sadly, the following letter I received from an AM reader in response to this apostasy within the CoS is a real, and quite vivid, illustration of the coming devastating effects which will be caused by those who are trying to divide the flock of God:

It is very sad about what has taken place in the Church of Scotland. I wish I could say this was the first time there was controversy in the COS, but sadly a large number of COS ministers have abandoned the gospel in favor of a moralistic therapeutic deism. Many COS members will have never even heard Jesus preached in their church.

I actually signed a petition for the COS to include language in their confession that would disallow unrepentant homosexual ministers. It was signed by ministers all over the UK and throughout the world. The problem is that Scripture is no longer their lens for viewing culture. Their own personal experiences in culture are their lens for viewing Scripture.

As a youth worker in the Free Church of Scotland, I would love to say this would never happen in our denomination. But I know that anything is possible with sinful man. We must pray for the unrepentant homosexual minister, as well as the entire COS. There are still many evangelical, biblical ministers who are going to have a hard decision whether or not to stay in the COS.
