MORE ON MATT CHANDLER
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Jun 9, 2009 in Current Issues, Spiritual Formation
In Confusion Concerning Calvinist Spirituality? — a prior Apprising Ministries post concerning Matt Chandler, pastor of Village Church — we pointed to a confusing promotion of Counter-Reformation spirituality ala Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the spiritual Gestapo unit the Jesuits, at Chandler’s church’s website.
In the section Recommended Books of The Village Church, “that have challenged and helped us as a staff in our faith and in our ministry work”, we find the books Celebration of Discipline, Streams of Living Water, and The Challenge of the Disciplined Life by Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster.
AM now places the link to a post from Surph’s Side blog here as an FYI in this regard because corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism is even making in-roads into the Reformed camp as a spurious Spiritual Formation. You may remember that Denise (aka Surphing), along with Carla Rolfe, used to be a part of the fine counter-Emerging Church blog E-No.
