TONY JONES WILL DISCUSS HOMOSEXUALITY BUT NOT FROM SCRIPTURE
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Aug 5, 2009 in Current Issues, Emergence Christianity, Emergent Church, Homosexuality/"Christian"
John Chisham, pastor of River of Life Alliance Church, discusses a post by Tony Jones, a leading theologian in the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church—now morphing into Emergence Christianity. Jones is ready for some “conversation” about his view that having sexual relations with another of the same sex i.e. homosexuality is also a viable lifestyle for the Christian.
So Jones writes:
If you are one who thinks that homosexual sex is sinful, can you please explain to me WHY a gay or lesbian person who is in a long-term, monogamous relationship would not be able to wholeheartedly follow Christ?
My only stipulation is this: You may not quote one of the six verses in scripture that mentions homosexuality. Instead, you must use theological and/or philosophical arguments…
And the article referenced below by my friend John Chisham, who does know Jones personally, is a response to the above from Tony Jones. Pastor Chisham begins by asking a couple of very important questions:
Why does somebody who calls himself a Christian desire to throw out the scripture in answering a question of this nature? How can one have a Christian theological argument not supported by the Bible?… (Online source)
