JAY BAKKER AND FIXING GANDHI
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Oct 2, 2009 in Current Issues, Emergence Christianity, Emergent Church, Features, Jay Bakker
As you can see in Jay Bakker On Sexism gay affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker is fond of using Twitter to preach to his growing brood of largely Biblically illiterate self-proclaimed outlaw preachers who’re slithering all around him on the outskirts of the egregiously ecumenical Emerging Church aka Emergent Church de-formation of the Christian faith—now morphing into Emergence Christianity—(EC).
The EC loves to try and denigrate proper Biblical Christianity by appealing to criticism of it from unregenerate pagans like Ghandi, who gave zero indication of being in Christ; and as such, regardless of his humanitarian efforts, he would have been found here:
For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:5-11, NASB)
Well, sure enough, today Bakker bows before Ghandi and Tweets:
“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.”~Mahatma Gandhi (Online source)
So since Bakker hasn’t seen the earlier Apprising Ministries post Fixing Gandhi I’ll again share what, in effect, Gandhi was really saying:
“I like the Christ whom I have made up in my own mind, I do not like Christians who remind me of the doctrine that He actually taught. Your Christians are so unlike the teachings of the imaginary Christ that I happen to like.”
It is interesting how often the Bible is quoted out of context and seldom real men of God like Charles Spurgeon or A.W. Tozer are quoted by these EC outlaws.
