SAMIR SELMANOVIC PREACHES AT JAY BAKKER’S CHURCH
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Jan 11, 2010 in Current Issues, Emergence Christianity, Emergent Church
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4, NASB)
Birds Of A Foul Feather Flock Together
And one of the up-and-coming ear-ticklers is Samir Selmanovic of the Emerging Church aka Emergent Church, which morphed into Emergence Christianity (EC)—now a cult of a postliberalism firmly within mainstream evangelicalism. In fact, earlier today he tweeted:
“10 to Watch in ’10” by David Crumm. http://short.to/133×2 (Online source)
The above link takes us to an article by Crumm that’s called And now … we’re proud to unveil … ReadTheSpirit’s “10 to Watch in ’10”. There you’ll find Selmanovic on Crumm’s list of supposedly stellar spiritual gurus along with such evangelical luminaries as Purpose Driven Pope Rick Warren and Rob Bell, the Elvis of the Emerging Church. Not all that surprising considering that Leadership Network has long been driving both of these off-shoots of the semi-pelagian (at best) Church Growth Movement.
Another indication that seducing spirits are herding their prey closer while together they’re espousing doctrines of demons is this tweet today by Selmanovic:
Preaching at Revolution NYC, deep in Pete’s Candy Store Bar. I luv these people. http://twitpic.com/xpeq5 http://twitpic.com/xpemd (Online source)
If you didn’t know Revolution NYC is the church of gay affirming “pastor” Jay Bakker, who heads up the rather rapscallion—largely Biblically illiterate—bunch who’ve crowned themselves outlaw preachers. Once in the shadows along the outskirts of this Emerging/ent/ence de-formation of Christianity, the more mainstream the Emerging Church has become, the more leaders within the EC like Tony Jones, heretical “theologian in residence” at the EC church of his equally heretical quasi-universalist pastor Doug Pagitt, are openly embracing Bakker.
Something Selmanovic, whose latest book would be better titled It’s All About A god Of Our Own Making, shares with all of the above ministers of the mystic—and mythical—mush god is they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them (1 John 4:5). Case in point is this other tweet below from Samir Selmanovic, which is him repeating what EC outpost Emergent Village had previously tweeted:
RT @emergentvillage “What does it mean if atheists are doing theology better than believers?” http://bit.ly/65ocaB // Blessing of Atheism! (Online source)
This link takes us to How Atheists Can Use Christianity where author Nathan Schneider tells us, “Exhausted by capitalism and endless jingoistic violence, a few non-believing philosophers are turning to God. Sort of.” You see, in their myth ECers like Selmanovic think God is at work in “the other” i.e. religions/belief systems, and further, that He’s “dreaming” all of mankind is now coming together because the curse was reversed at the Cross; so of course he’ll get pretty excited by the Humpty Dumpty language of Scheider’s piece.
However, those infected with Liberalism 2.0 like Selmanovic can be excited by “a theologically engaged atheism” because, just as master Bible-twister Rick Warren, in the synthetic reality they’ve been creating they just treat men’s words as Play-Doh, whose meanings are to be bent and shaped in any way they wish. But we’ve heard this kind of nonsense before with so-called “Christian Atheism”; and in the end, it’s just another attempt to find friendship with world through the common ground of the reimagined EC quasi-Marxist social gospel of “stick it to the Caesar man.”
