And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
(Hebrews 11:6)

Faith is brought to the test when things that are beyond human comprehension are brought forward.  It is not difficult for man to believe the things that he knows and the things that he has experienced before.  Faith is displayed in a man when he fully trusts the Word of God in the midst of a world of doubters.  The entire Bible is a book that requires faith.  Without faith it will be impossible to please God, because to not believe His Word is to conclude that He is a liar. 

The Bible is not an optional book in which man has the prerogative to believe the parts that he wants to and discard the parts that he does not like.  The entirety of the Scripture has the same Author, and to discount one section, is to doubt the Author of the whole.  Every verse that is read brings a man before God and exposes whether or not the man has faith.  The Bible cannot be understood apart from faith.  The things that are displayed before a man’s eyes in the pages of Scripture are beyond science and philosophy. 

The Bible does not have to bow to science no more than it has to bow to philosophy.  The Bible boldly declares that ‘God made foolish the wisdom of the world.’  God is Sovereign over science and philosophy. What is it that your faith believes?  Do you believe that the dead can be raised to life?  Do you believe that a man who is lame for 38 years can simply get up and walk home?  Do you believe that fire can come down from the heavens and burn up a sacrifice soaked in water?  Do you believe that a man who is blind from birth can see 20/20? 

Do you believe that a man can walk on water?  Do you believe that the weather can be controlled with a spoken word?  Do you believe that the sun can be told to stand still?  Do you believe that the universe can be created in six 24 four hour days?  Do you believe that a new heaven and a new earth can be created in one day?  Do you believe that God can speak a mature earth into existence, immediately? 

Dearly beloved, in a day when assaults upon the Word of God abound I implore you to stand strong in the faith.  When a man begins to doubt the Word of God there is no limit to the length that he may fall.  In order to bring pleasure to the God of heaven it is necessary to believe that which He has spoken in His Word.
