JOEL OSTEEN: RESONATING IN SOCIETY WHERE DAMNATION MESSAGES DON’T

Apprising Ministries brings to your attention a post over at Christian Research Net called Joel Osteen’s Life Lessons in Becoming A Better You where we are told that:
A Christian author has come to the defense of Joel Osteen against critics who say the megapastor’s messages are “theology lite” and void of the central Christian message of the cross.
“Critics say Osteen lacks biblical references in his books and claim that he preaches prosperity gospel,” said Richard Young, author of The Rise of Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen. “However, I found nearly 130 scriptural references in ‘Become a Better You,’ Osteen’s newest book.” (Online source)
Well, just pick up the latest book from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (aka Jehovah’s Witnesses) Mr. Young and you’ll easily find quadruple that amount of “scriptural references.” And as one of those “critics” I can tell you that we do not say Osteen lacks “biblical references” for his candy-coated “Christianity.”
No Mr. Young, what we are actually saying is that Joel Osteen lacks Biblical precedence for his fantasies ala man-centered mentor Robert Schuller. And it is simply beyond question that Osteen is a card-carrying member of the Word Faith Movement who absolutely preaches the prosperity “gospel” as well as the heretical “born again” Jesus.
