The Evolution Of Skepticism

It is only through the toxic seed of the theory of evolution, the primary arm of the religion of secular humanism, which has given now given new life to relativism that the Church of our Lord even needs to discuss the skepticism rampant within postmodern America. Essentially what has happened is that paganism has now grown to such lengths that we have seen a cultural “shift” away from an objective truth (from which moral absolutes arise) to a subjective truth (where relativism arises). The amazing thing is that when the Christian community began to notice this, instead of raising God’s Word in the Bible as a standard against it, growing sections of the Evangelical community began seceding in what has become known as the Emergent Church movement. As Emergent pastor Dan Kimball told Brent Kunkle on the Stand To Reason radio program the Emergent “conversation” initially began with youth ministers and pastors looking for a more postmodern approach to Christianity.

And speaking of Kimball, should you wonder why this insideous Emergent rebellion against the Bible is subtly slithering into more and more mainstream evangelical communities here is what the Pied Piper of Purpose Driven Rick Warren said about Kimball’s book The Emerging Church:

Truth Hasn’t Changed

O there is no doubt that times have changed, but the question is: Has the concept of Truth itself changed; or instead did a change occur within the Christian Church in its approach to standing for Truth? To someone who is objective there can be little doubt that the Evangelical community in this postmodern pagan nation has largely capitulated to this fickle society–ostensibly to reach these people–but in truth it has only been leading them down the slippery slope into a skeptical doubt about the concept of definitively arriving at Truth within the Bible. From interaction with people within the Emergent Church movement it has become clear to me that philosophical skepticism has been deeply rooted within this schismatic and increasingly brazen cult festering within the Evangelical community. And you may mark my words, if this spiritual cancer is not cut out of our Lord’s Church, there will be irreparable damage done to the Christian witness among our young adult population–and most particularly teenagers. For they are the most likely to be taken in by all this pseudo-intellectual mumbo jumbo and the quasi-Christian social gospel of the supposed Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.

But here in our text we read an eyewitness account from the Apostle John who reports that God the Son–Christ Jesus of Nazareth says through the power of God the Holy Spirit to Almighty God the Father – “Thy Word is Truth.” In fact, Christ had also said – “I Am the Truth.” Now just because many people today don’t happen to believe this–even within increasing sections of Christ’s Own Church–that does not somehow make these statements become untrue. As a matter of historic fact, Jesus of Nazareth told the Jewish religious leaders of the nation of Israel that He was the eternal God Himself come in human flesh, and they did not believe Him. Instead these men would go on to help engineer our Lord’s crucifixion; but even that was not able to make His claim untrue, as Jesus then raised Himself from the dead just as He had promised He would (see–John 2:19). And because He lives, we can know that Christ is true to His Word when our Lord promises to send God the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Truth – Who still guides us into all Truth.

Men and women, it is so critical today that we help people to finally come to understand that just because someone chooses not to believe something, this simply does not mean that we then need to turn around and doubt its veracity. And despite the rhetorical jell-o of the Emergent Church movement, this absolute fact still remains: Something is either true, or it isn’t, and your opinion and my opinion about that truth really doesn’t matter in the least. So maybe you are a professing Christian who is involved in the counterfeit Christian Emergent Church movement and you don’t believe that Jesus cares whether or not you stop your dabbling in pleasures of the flesh, but your faulty view of the holiness of the LORD God Almighty will never alter the absolute Truth of His eternal Word in the Bible:

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:26-31).
