A little while ago the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America tweeted the partial quote below:

The above link takes us to the ELCA facebook page for the entire quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

Now I am certainly by no means a fan of Bonhoeffer; however, here is absolutely right, sinners are in the prison cell of their sin. And it’s a hallmark of Lutheran theology that sinners need the Gospel, repentance for the forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ Name, preached to them; this is what God uses to unlock  the prison cell.

But by the ELCA “affirming,” and now even ordaining, unrepentant men and women continuing to openly commit sexual immorality as they live the deviant and sinful lifestyle of having sexual relations with another of the same sex i.e homosexuality, they are actually withholding the freeing power of God’s Gospel from them.

And by doing so this Advent, despite all their pious blather about love and Good News, the fact remains that the ELCA is then leaving the precious GLBTQ people—for whom Christ died—locked away in the chains and darkness of their own personal prison cell of sin. So I ask again: Why No Condemnation For Christians Who Are Homopressive?

May the Lord grant the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America repentance for their sin of lying to GLBTQ people and cruelty towards them as it withholds the Gospel of Jesus Christ from them.
