JOHN CROWDER AND HIS NEW MYSTICS HIGH ON GOD
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Feb 16, 2010 in AM Missives, Current Issues, Features, Word Faith
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. (2 Peter 2:1-3)
Careful What You Pray For
As I said in the Apprising Ministries post John Crowder And The New Mystics, no, it’s not a new rock band; alhough he does like to teach people to party in God on his “Drunken Glory Tours.” In Operation Immobilization? over at A Little Leaven, the Museum of Idolatry where you’ll find the world’s largest collection of Artifacts of Apostasy, we read a sad fact concerning Crowder and his apostate horde: “Sadly, the secular press has taken notice of these false prophets. Check out this story entitled The Ravers Who Get High On God.”
Over at her Slaughter of the Sheep website Chrystal, who does an excellent job covering this x-treme section of the broader Word Faith movement, informs us in her post God-ka and the Yum Rum of Heaven:
Mystic John Crowder and his sidekick, Benjamin Dunn, visited South Wales in January and made a bit of a splash. A reporter from The Sun in the U.K. (google it if you’re interested) covered Sloshfest, a mystical ecstatic event organized by a fella named David Vaughn, that reinforces the false doctrine and demonic manifestations you see from such people as Brandon Barthrop and Patricia King. The event is now in its fourth year, and as you can tell from the article, the reporter seems intrigued with the fact that these people are behaving in a drunken manner even though they have ingested no drugs or alcohol, and even refers to the atmosphere as being “debauched.”
It is always interesting to hear how things like this appear to the secular world. Here are some quotes from his article. Please follow the link to read it for yourself.
The 38-year-old (David Vaughan, organizer of Sloshfest) from nearby Pontypool is a former drug-user who makes no apologies for painting God as a party animal who wants to win over youngsters with supernatural highs. (Online source)

Chrystal then goes on to give some *ahem* sobering Scripture which shows that Vaughan is hallucinating alright; but, not on God. And in the Christian Research Net post New Spirituality, LSD, and Getting High On God yesterday I put up the video below of New Age guru Deepak Chopra discussing the use of mind-altering drugs as a way of “enlightenment” i.e. transformation. The question I have is: Are we so sure with Crowder’s crowd that they’re not actually involved with the real thing? Consider this from the Emergent Ooze concerning marijuana Bill Clinton Stole My Line Or The Perils Of Hippy Lettuce.
You may also wish to note the following as it pertains to all of this mystical New Spirituality:
David Blaine lookalike tells [the reporter] he became a Christian after a Godly experience on LSD. John, 33, from California, says: “I was a party guy at college and became an alcoholic within the first year, sometimes downing up to 36 beers in a single day. I also did recreational drugs and during an LSD trip in a bar I had a profound encounter with God.
For more on The New Mystics by John Crowder (top video below) we give you the link to last week’s Crosstalk radio program The New Mystics: A Warning. And now listen below to mystic Deepak Chopra, who just happens to be a Living Spiritual Teacher along with e.g. Emerging Church mystic Brian McLaren, as he:
remembers his first spiritual experience with LSD at 17, and discusses various cultural uses of hallucinogenic drugs to achieve enlightenment.
And in closing this for now, I will tell you that all of this really isn’t so far away from the current fad of corrupt Contemplative Spirituality/Mysticism (CSM) as perpetrated by Living Spiritual Teacher and Quaker mystic Richard Foster along with his friend and spiritual twin SBC minister Dallas Willard, which is currently even sweeping into mainstream evangelicalism under the mask of spurious Spiritual Formation (SF). Know also that Chrystal’s warning below is dead-on-target concerning this CSM rebellion against the proper Christian spirituality of Sola Scriptura:
They aren’t interested in Biblical truth, they’re interested in drunkenness, they want manifestations, mystical experiences, and tingles of the flesh that will ensure that they are never pleasing God and never able to in their present state. Under this deception, they will never grow spiritually. They will forever remain fleshly and wanton, fulfilling the lusts of the flesh.
They will be incapable of pursuing or following the will of God. (1 Peter 4:2) The young folks are revolting. They don’t want the old way of doing things, they want something new, something relevant, something they can enjoy. (Online source)
