THE COMFORT OF GOD'S WORD
By AM on Sep 15, 2010 in Devotions
God’s Word reminds us that our comfort is in Him. As many of us mourn the passing of Rick Hutton, I pray that we will be drawn to the God of all comfort and that He will receive great glory during this difficult time.
Whatever comfort there is to be had it will be found in Him for He is the God of all comfort:
I, even I, am he that comforteth you.
“I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass, 1
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. 3
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. 4
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 5
But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. 6
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 7
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 8
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 9
