RICK WARREN AND SADDLEBACK CHURCH WORSHIP
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Nov 2, 2010 in Current Issues, Features, Rick Warren
I mentioned before that I finally gave in and made a category called Semi-Satire here at Apprising Ministries, where e.g. you’ll find hard-hitting exposés like Progressive Christianity And Social Justice?
There we told you about Tommy “Tex” Toddleroni, who heads up a group called Babies Angry Because of Yacks (BABY). You might remember that Toddleroni possibly lead a rally a while back outside Our Other’s Protective Sanctuary (OOPS) in Anywhere, USA.
OOPS may have been an inclusive progressive Christian church self-help center allegedly led by Pastrix Darla Burleson, who describes her congregation as “our Lord’s gathering for us love ourselves.”
Well, not unlike the Marty Python Flying Circus Church skit concerning the “Holy Ghost Hokie-Pokie” on the Pirate Christian Radio program Fighting for the Faith hosted by Christian apologist Chris Rosebrough, the visible church is becoming a parody of itself.
For that reason, satire isn’t very often all that divorced from the real deal anymore. For our case in point, I bring you Purpose Driven Pope Rick Warren and his highly influential Saddleback Church, which is arguably the most visible church in the largely pretending to be Protestant Southern Baptist Convention:
And now, for your listening and dancing in a spirit pleasure, Apprising Ministries brings you Saddleback Church Worship featuring Jackie Barnard with the ode to self called The Climb. You remember, that ol’ classic hymn about our purpose-filled destiny made famous by the great pop philosopher Miley Cyrus:
I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying
“You’ll never reach it”Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shakingBut I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held highThere’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to loseAin’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climbThe struggles I’m facing
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I’m not breakingI may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep goingAnd I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on‘Cause there’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to loseAin’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah! There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody’s gonna have to loseAin’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah!Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It’s all about, it’s all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa
Yes, I do believe that “whoa” says it all ya’ll…
