Recently Dr. Al Mohler weighed in on his blog concerning a recent address delivered by Pope Benedict XVI while he “visited his native Germany.” Unfortunately for the apostate Church of Rome during this message Benedict VXI opened his mouth long enough to exchange feet while he made some “comments on Islam” in the address which dealt “mainly with the relationship between faith and reason.”

As a fellow Southern Baptist myself I wish Dr. Mohler had written with a bit more boldness but he is exactly right when he says:

There are a host of issues of interest here. In the first place, this incident is yet another reminder of the danger of the papacy. This is not a popular point to make – even among some confused evangelicals – but it is a necessary point…the office [Pope Benedict XVI] holds is an unbiblical institution based in a monarchial ministry that is incompatible with the New Testament’s vision of the church. (emphasis mine)

Furthermore, he claims also to be a head of state – a situation that adds untold layers of additional confusion. The problem of the papacy is much larger than this short summary can address, but the important issue here is that the Pope’s comments – whether for good or for ill – are given a prominence that is unbiblical and dangerous. (emphasis mine)

Rome And Islam Worship The Same God

It should also be of concern that the Roman Catholic Church officially teaches that:

3. The [Roman Catholic] Church regards with esteem also the Moslems. They adore the one God,…the Creator of heaven and earth,…just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself,…Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet.

That little bit of “insight” comes from Nostra Aetate “the Declaration on the Relation of the [Roman Catholic] Church to Non-Christian Religions, which was Proclaimed by His Holiness Pope Paul VI – October 28, 1965” (transcript on file).

I cover this further in Rome And Islam Worship The Same God and lest you think this so-called “infallible” Vicar of Christ’s teaching has somehow been done away we note that this same false idea is currently taught in section 841 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.” (330)
