THE PRIDE OF EVANGELICALISM: ‘MAN SAVES MAN’ AND DECISIONS ARE THE PLAN
By Ken Silva pastor-teacher on Aug 24, 2007 in AM Missives, Current Issues
This post comes from Apprising Ministries. This piece puts the shot right exactly into the heart of the matter within apostatizing evangelicalism and shows you right where the most vital battle of this Truth War in this generation must be fought:
Where did we ever get the idea that people can save other people, and even save themselves? Sure, nobody comes right out and says that, but you can tell that they think it. It’s amazing how this one theological error upstream ends up causing an entire evangelism epidemic downstream. No, theology is not useless “head knowledge”, it impacts our actions. And in this case, bad theology has produced an entire errant evangelistic system. (Online source)
If I might, let me simplify the issue and ask the following two questions this way: If someone preaches a God-centered Gospel–God alone is involved in a mans salvation–and another person preaches a man-centered gospel–a man is involved at whatever level in his salvation–isn’t one of them preaching another gospel? And if so; what then are we to do with this from Galatians 1:
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
And interestingly enough, even those who are doing so can read about it in their own Message: I can’t believe your fickleness–how easily you have turned traitor to him who called you by the grace of Christ by embracing a variant message! It is not a minor variation, you know; it is completely other, an alien message, a no-message, a lie about God. Those who are provoking this agitation among you are turning the Message of Christ on its head.
